Granite Construction Inc - Palmdale , CADriller

Started out at entry level as a Floor-hand, then worked my way up to a Driller. As a Driller I was in charge of operating the drilling rig through it's automated drilling system, called an Omron Drilling System. This is a system that uses touch screen technology to perform all aspects of the drilling process. I worked closely with Drill Site Managers for the energy resource company owning the wells. I am Well Control Certified to determine and control potentially deadly down hole well control issues.

Other responsibilities included:

  • Supervised employee productivity and overall drilling procedures.
  • Managed team of 4 personnel and suggested changes to daily protocol, resulting in safer, more efficient production.
  • Supervised all day drilling operations and provided troubleshooting expertise.
  • Supervised and documented all drilling operations.
  • Ensured drilling activities were in compliance with all HSE requirements, work instructions and procedures.
  • Designed protocols for all rig moving operations, including assigning job tasks to meet individual employee's skills and to conduct job safety analysis to eliminate accidents.

Mastec - Farmington , MEQA/QC Inspector

While with Yates Constructors, I worked on the Construction Management Team building a polysilicon plant that consisted of a 1000 acre site with 27 structures that at full capacity employed about 2000 tradesmen. This facility was owned by Wacker, which is a German owned company. At that time it was the 3rd biggest construction job in the country with an estimated cost of $8 billion. I was in charge of the civil, structural, and architectural QA/QC on 10 buildings. Basic duties were to make sure these structures were built per contract, on time, and within budget.

Other responsibilities included:

  • Generated reports with documented findings and recommendations.
  • Performed detailed measurements with hand-held devices and performed visual inspections of the line.
  • Utilized nuclear soil compaction testing equipment and made sure that the testing labs used were up to date on calibration of testers for optimal performance.
  • Inspected, tested, and measured materials for conformance to specifications, and to assure they were per contract documents.
  • Assessed quality of products and compliance with tolerance standards by inspecting products, components, and materials.
  • Inspected, tested, and assured materials for conformance to specifications and regulatory requirements of contract documents per local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Assigned and marked items with grades and official acceptance or rejection status.
  • Produced official reports of findings to meet regulatory standards and assist senior leadership with improvement.
  • Conducted inspections of surface preparation coatings applied to exterior and interior structures, including primer, mid-coat, top-coat, and powder coatings.
  • Noted changes during testing in project documentation.
  • Collaborated with all key stakeholders to understand client's anticipated outcome for product testing.
  • Insured contractors repaired failed inspections and re-inspected.
  • Learned new testing methods through continued education and research.
  • Identified production concerns and worked with supervisors to understand and remedy situations.

Mastec - Charlotte , NCQA/QC Inspector

While working on this job as a QA/QC inspector I was a part of the Quality Team building a 5th Circuit Court of Appeals Federal Courthouse. I worked closely with GSA (General Services Administration) officials. This was one of the first LEED jobs (environmentally safe material jobs) in the state of Mississippi. Also, the first job in the state to use side plate connections and fire retardant covering to help against blasts from possible terrorists attacks. This was also a Buy America job where only certain foreign materials, as approved by the government could be used on this project. At completion, this job required a federal background check to be completed to enter judges chambers, senators offices and U.S. Marshals offices for close out procedures.

Other responsibilities included:

  • Generated reports with documented findings and recommendations.
  • Worked with a testing lab that used a nuclear compaction tester for civil work, Ultrasound/X-ray equipment for structural tests, and a compression tester for HVAC duct work and elevator shaft tests. All testing equipment was calibrated for optimal performance.
  • Performed detailed measurements with hand-held devices and performed visual inspections of the line.
  • Helped reduce errors and rejected items by proposing and implementing improvements per contract documents and specifications.
  • Assessed quality of products and compliance with tolerance standards by inspecting products, components and materials.

  • Compared product and materials colors, shapes, textures, and grades with predetermined templates.
  • Produced official reports of findings to meet regulatory standards and assist senior leadership with improving operations.
  • Assigned and marked items with grades and official acceptance or rejection status.
  • Inspected, tested, and measured materials for conformance to specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Noted changes during testing in project documentation.
  • Crafted test cases after determining test scenarios taken from each step of the job to conform with contract documents.
  • Learned new testing methods through continued education and research.
