I have been dancing and performing since I was about four years old. During my high school years I was selected to participate in All County Dance for three consecutive years under the dance instruction of Mrs. Evette Clemons and Caitie Reece. I took dance under both of these women all four of my years at Reynolds. I cheered for three years under the coaching direction of Ms. Micika Meadows. Ms. Meadows was a cheer alumnus of Reynolds High School. As an extra curricular activity during high school, I was a professional dancer at the Art Council Theatre in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I was the youngest dancer to perform on the stage during the gala performance of "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope!" during the 2009 National Black Theatre Festival. I served as dance team captain at my church for five years under the direction of Elliot Lowery. During my years at Winston-Salem State University I have been apart of the ART dance company on our college campus while maintaining my membership in the Winston-Salem State University Honors Program in Honors College. During Christmas of 2012, I was cast as a dancer in the professional production of "The Black Nativity". I continue to work under the instruction of Mabel Robinson, the director and choreographer of the Black Repertory Company.
Named director of the spring dance concert in 2010 during my senior year at Reynolds. Cheered as the cheerleading co-captain for two years. JV cheerleader for one year. Recognized as Most Valuable Player of the cheerleading squad during my senior year. Named student body Vice President. Served as the representative for the Lambda Delta service club, and a member of several other organizations on campus at that time. Hand selected by our principal to represent our school in the Winston-Salem State University homecoming parade on the float for high school honors students in our county. Hand selected by the athletic instructor, Coach Spivey, to represent the RJ Reynolds cheerleaders to speak at the Athletic Banquet. Cast as a professional dancer and the youngest dancer to perform on the stage during the gala performance of "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope!" during the 2009 National Black Theatre Festival. Served as the dance captain of the Christian Arts Dance Ministry at St. Peter's Church and World Outreach Center for five years under the direction of Mr. Elliot Lowery. Member of the ART dance company on campus at Winston-Salem State University during my freshman year. Cast in the professional production of "The Black Nativity" as a dancer. Served as a Big Sister with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program during my sophomore and junior years in college. I now teach a ballet one class to young dancers on Saturday mornings at St. Peter's Church and World Outreach Center under the direction of Elliot Lowery.
Reviewed dance steps with other members of the dance team. Alerted other dance team members about practices and performance dates. Assisted dance team coach with choreography and organizing dances, rehearsals, costumes, and performances. Made sure dance team members possessed full knowledge of all dances.
I helped choreograph cheers, cheer dances, and I helped make sure that all of the cheerleaders knew the cheers and performed them well. I worked alongside the captain to come up with new ideas that would help improve the team. I also made sure that the girls respected one another as well as the captain when practicing and during games. I took on full responsibilities as the cheer captain when the coach and cheer captain were unable to attend practices.
I am currently pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with Special Education as my second course of study. I plan to graduate in the fall semester of 2014.
