Freddy's street food is an Italian and Greek restaurant. I started off at $8.30 an hour and shortly got a raise to $11. I work drive-thru, call-ins, and register. I also cook, prepare and serve food to the costumers. I worked full-time summer of 2018 and 2019, working open to close many days of the week. Some of the duties as a closer consist of cleaning the dining area, line, and the back of the house. It was very important we kept the restaurant clean and ensured counters and tables were properly sanitized. I also help place food orders and restock. 4 months into the job I got promoted to shift leader where I was in charge of everyone on my shift and was responsible for making sure my costumers were happy and satisfied during their visit. If there was a customer concern or complaint, it is my job to make sure I fixed and did whatever I could to make sure we took their concern very seriously, leave them satisfied, and likely to return. We are short-staffed in the back of house the majority of the time. Many times I have to work drive-thru, line, and the back all at the same time. We hold many fundraisers and events at our restaurant and it is my job to order materials and make sure everything runs smoothly. In the store, I am in charge of making sure to count the drawers every time shifts switch. So we can be sure to not have any drawer short at the end of the night.
Happy Daz is a small dinner style fast food restaurant. I got paid minimum wage ($8.30). I worked both drive one (take orders and check out) and drive two (bag food, make drinks and milkshakes, and hand out food). I mainly closed but occasionally worked breakfast during the weekends. I Upheld high standards of productivity and quality in all areas of operations. Some of the typical closing routines we had was cleaning bathrooms, wiping booths and tables, sweeping, mopping, and duck scrubbing. Some other duties included stocking, cleaning of the ice cream machines, cleaning the pop machines, etc. During the month of June, we had $1 donations that costumers could purchase to donate to the military and their families. If purchased we would then place their name on a paper. Which, was placed all around the store. I was one of the highest sellers out of all of the 6 Happy Daz restaurants also including Beer Barrel. My responsibilities included that I took phone calls and could efficiently handle complaints calmly and respectfully. I made sure When handling complaints that I had apologized for their inconvenience and ensured we would do everything we could do to ensure their next visit was satisfactory. I helped our store run smoothly and efficiently by labeling, organizing, and cleaning whenever I was free from helping a customer. I was always on time for every shift and never called off. I, unfortunately, did not get to work at Happy Daz for long because I moved back to Delaware.
Dari Point is a family-owned ice cream business. I got paid $7.85 and was eventually bumped up to $8.30. Since it was my first job, I worked the register, took orders, made, and prepared the food. I only work day shift and closed because I was and still am currently enrolled in school. I only worked at Dari Point during the summer because it is a seasonal job and I was also working full time at Freddy's street food at the time.
I'm currently enrolled in high school at Rutherford b. Hayes and I hope to further my education. My graduation year is 2021.
I have been apart of a volunteer group at the local YMCA, called team leaders for the past 6 years. We have held many local events and fundraisers. This volunteer group teaches young teens how to be responsible, dependable, and hard-working. Since our group does a lot of volunteer work. It has taught me how to improve communication skills and become a true leader to those around me. This group has given me many new opportunities of getting to help and meet others. Every summer we attend special Olympics held at OSU. There we are able to assist the athletes and cheer them on as they make their way down to the finish line. I also volunteer half my school day in the transition room (special needs rooms). Having the opportunity to volunteer at Special Olympics and the transition room at school has given me a new perspective on life. I've learned that we as individuals are very different from one another and that is not a bad thing. Our differences are what truly make us unique; it is what makes us, us.
