Maintain security within an institution and oversee the health and safety of staff and offenders

Physically patrol and visually inspect units, yards, buildings, offenders, offender property, etc. to ensure the safety and security of the institution.

Under the supervision of the Correctional Captain, this position is responsible for the daily operation of the facility in accordance with DOC policies and Operational Memorandum's.

Complete reporting requirements, full review of documentation, and provide recommendations to chain-of-command. Investigate Staff/Offender grievances and complete tort claims against property loss as assigned. Lieutenant may be used as a disciplinary hearings officers for violation of administrative codes as required.

The Correctional Lieutenant provides concrete direction and a professional example to all Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers, and other non-uniform staff.

Correctional Sergeant

The Correctional Sergeant supervises and assists correctional officers as they perform custody work to ensure the safety and security of an adult correctional facility, unit, offenders, staff, and the public. Taking emergency action and intervening in/controlling acts of negative behavior and violence by offenders by following prescribed procedures and guidelines, using verbal de-escalation, and physical and lethal uses of force.

Completing written reports, keeping logs and other records -Ensuring offender, staff, and public safety by restricting mail, inspecting packages for contraband, admitting authorized visitors, and enforcing visitor regulations.
