Income Tax Duties:

  • Remain up to date on current tax legislation. specifically legislation affecting individuals and "small" businesses.
  • Remain in contact with partners throughout the year discussing Eskimo performance as well as their personal financial situations.
  • Assist partners with understanding tax notices, social security statements, and any other complex financial issue/document.
  • Annually compile all year-end documents necessary for tax preparer to prepare 2 partnership 1065's and associated K1's for 30+ partners
  • Review 1065's for 2 entities (LLC and LP)
  • Review K1's for all partners of LLC and LP, ensuring each K1 accurately categorizes partner's share of business activities.
  • Ensure K1s are accurate as far as partners % share, capital account balances are correct (prior year ending is equal to current year beginning. increase/decreases are accurate), and basic info is correct.
  • Provide comments/revisions necessary to tax preparer (example: 2019 initial K1s had guaranteed payments inaccurately recorded as ordinary income)
  • Maintain contact with partners throughout the year to remain knowledgeable about their incomes sources, financial changes, and/or other pertinent data affecting their personal 1040. Inquire as to changes in investments, income, or other personal situation which would affect the 1040 (death, divorce, sell of ownership)
  • Consistently have a clear understanding of each partner's life situations, including spousal income, death of a partner (Eskimo's partners are getting older).
  • Ensure all changes of asset ownership are reflected on form 8949 and properly categorized as short term or long term.
  • Business property that is sold accurately reflected on form 4797.
  • Discuss with tax prepare all partner annual activity, including financial changes and/or life changes
  • High level review 1040's year over year changes. Investigate changes to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure each 1040 has accurate basic information and accurately represents partner's financial activities for the year. Ensure necessary changes are incorporated and properly reflected on the return.
  • Ensure form 8960 is accurate and all investment income is captured. Compare data to partner discussion, K1's, 1099's, and/or other investment documents.
  • Ensure estimated tax payments remitted throughout the year are accurate on schedule 5.
  • Review Schedule E ensuring all partnership income and loss categorized appropriately
  • Review Self Employment Tax calculations for partners whom are still actively working.
  • Review AMT form 6251 ensuring taxable income is accurate, and AMT is calculated appropriately
  • Review other forms attached to 1040, including but not limited to: Form 8886 Conservation Easement disclosure, 8283 Charitable Contributions, 4952 Investment Expense, 8995 QBI deduction, 8960 Investment Income Tax, 8582 Passive Activity Loss Limitations (most of Eskimo's partners are retired and have only passive income/investment income.)
  • Responded to state and federal tax notices by preparing written responses or tax return amendments.
  • Corresponded with applicable tax departments regarding customer requirements and issues.
  • Finalize and process paperwork with local, state and federal government authorities.
  • Supplied detailed tax documentation needed to submit accurate corporate and individual returns.

Financial Oversight Duties:

  • Financial oversite of over $15.3m revenue and over $50m Assets.
