To create a positive learning environment for students by obtaining a part-time teaching position for grades K-3.
Classroom Teacher Beverly Farms Elementary School － Potomac, MD
Taught material to a group of heterogeneous second graders Planned and successfully carried out differentiated whole and small group lessons based on Montgomery County Pubic School's curriculum that met the needs of all students Differentiated instruction in all subjects based on student need and ability Worked with a variety of special needs students (attention and behavioral needs, Autism) Collaborated with fellow teachers, resource teachers, and parents to meet students' needs I have a passion for teaching, and I apply this passion to my everyday lessons.
I believe that learning should be fun, and although there are educational requirements, students should leave the classroom wanting to come back to learn more.
I set high, individualized expectations for all my students.
It is my goal by the end of the school year that each of my students grows academically and matures socially.
Collaboration is the key to being a successful teacher.
I would collaborate with my team members, horizontally and vertically, as well as with specialists in the school to ensure that needs of my students are met.
Communicating expectations and progress with parents and students allows for the formation of positive relationships.
I communicate my expectations by posting learning objectives and reading them to the students at the beginning of a lesson, providing rubrics for all my assessments, sending home newsletters containing information about upcoming events and what their child will be learning, and conferencing with parents.
To build positive relationships with my students, I feel it is important to show the students that I am a person, not just a teacher.
I do this by my sharing information about my life.
I have found that when I am willing to share personal details, the students feel comfortable doing the same.
To support student success, instruction must be engaging and must address each child's individual differences.
In order to engage students, I use a variety of teaching and learning styles throughout my lessons.
We are living in a technological age, and students are becoming more and more driven by technology.
By using technological tools such as the Smart Board, I further enhance lessons and make them more engaging for my students.
In order to address the individual differences/needs of all my students, I use differentiated centers as well as small groups and/or individualized instruction.
When attending graduate school, I made the choice to get an endorsement in Gifted Education.
I use the skills I acquired from the Gifted Education courses to enhance my everyday lessons.
Although not all students are labeled as being gifted, parts of the programs and activities I learned can be used to encourage out of the box thinking in all students.
Teaching techniques, strategies and programs are always changing and there are many new ideas available in books, online, and in professional development settings.
I feel it is my responsibility to take the initiative to learn about the evolution of the teaching profession.
This is necessary in order to become a better, more effective teacher.
And I enjoy applying my new- found knowledge in my classroom.
I feel a well-rounded teacher who treats her students like little people, not just children, who listens to them, who cares about each and every one of them, who does everything in her power to make them successful, is a teacher who will be rewarded by the high academic performance achieved by her students.
I am that teacher.
