Summary
In my life, I have had some snafus. My business failed after seven years. I have enjoyed great financial success, only to lose everything eventually. I now work in a physically relentless, soul-crushing job with no future, but continue to show up every day. These are exactly the reasons you should hire me. I've made all the mistakes so that I can help you, and your company, avoid them. I am reliable, trustworthy; and how could I leave this out, a team player. I am not afraid to make decisions yet understand the consequences of bad ones. I am looking for what will hopefully be my forever job with a medium to large business in Human Resources in the Chicago area. I would also consider positions that require travel, and/or telecommuting. Specific areas of skill include: ♦ Benefit Programs ♦ Operations Management ♦ Employee Relations ♦ Payroll & Taxes ♦ Policy Development ♦ Complaint Resolution

Accomplishments
  • AA - Pre-Law (Honors), Lake Michigan College, 2013
  • This company was my baby. I grew it from a closet in my children's playroom; to my garage, and eventually to three retail locations and three websites. I was responsible for all operations of Harbor Country Bike. Two of my proudest moments were receiving the award for #1 Independent Schwinn Dealer in 2008 for superior sales performance and #1 Schwinn Electric Bicycle Dealer in the US for 2009. I created the first website myself, and it became large enough that when Amazon first started partnering with retailers, we were the first bicycle seller. Yes, we were the first bicycle retailer on Amazon. With Amazon, we went on to sell over 6,000 bicycles in the year 2008 alone
  • I grew the company from first-year sales of $25,000 to over $3.5 million two years before the decline. We won the Diamond Level Sales Award from Electra Bicycle Company and negotiated an exclusive sales contract with US Army Air Force Exchange, shipping bicycles overseas to troops all over the world. This contract alone was worth sales of almost $1 million dollars annually
Experience
01/2010 to 01/2012
City Letter Carrier Bridge Senior Living Mobile, AL,
I prepare, transport & deliver mail to residents and businesses along preset routes in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, MI on the planet Hoth. I think almost everyone knows what a mailman does, but probably what they don't realize; is that is an especially miserable job in the winter, and sometimes in the heat of the summer. Some days I walk twelve miles per day with a 35 pound satchel on my shoulder while worrying about every single minute I am behind because they time us by the click. The experience is not like the Seinfeld episode; they got it wrong. MY BIKE OF TINLEY PARK, Tinley Park, IL 2010 - 2012 Website & Payroll Management Tasked with supervising all HR matters for this company, including recruiting, training, documentation, payroll, and evaluations; I handled all of the human resource functions for ten employees. I administered employee benefits, oversaw personnel compensation and maintained knowledge of all relevant legal parameters. I provided comprehensive professional coaching and development assistance to staff members and skillfully negotiated contracts and marketed programs, and periodically counseled a very nervous owner. I developed all aspects of two major corporate eCommerce programs driven by two separate.ASP shopping platforms, which produced over $1MM in yearly revenue. Prepared & deployed Google AdWords advertising, implemented & modified prices and formulated & instituted effective marketing strategies. Knowledgeably negotiated with vendors, provided superior customer service and resolved problems. I started these two sites from nothing, and that has to count for something. Google eventually changed their shopping model to pay to play, and we just weren't able to keep up with the larger players. You have got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em.
01/2004 to 01/2010
CEO/Human Resources Manager Massage Envy Lake Ridge, VA,
This company was my baby. With Amazon, we went on to sell over 6,000 bicycles in the year 2008 alone. I grew the company from first-year sales of $25,000 to over $3.5 million two years before the decline. We won the Diamond Level Sales Award from Electra Bicycle Company and negotiated an exclusive sales contract with US Army Air Force Exchange, shipping bicycles overseas to troops all over the world. This contract alone was worth sales of almost $1 million dollars annually. I assembled a team of 27 employees developing strong, empowered managers who knew who and how to hire efficient, reliable employees. I handled all aspects of HR for my small company including benefits programs, taxes, payroll, COBRA, and FMLA. I also efficiently maintained inventory and negotiated with vendors regarding contracts & products. Knowledgeably instructed management personnel in operational methodologies and communicated with customers to determine satisfactory activities and new courses of action and accurately processed all financial transactions and books. Unfortunately, due to my aggressive and sometimes pathological need for growth at the time, the recession caught us with a balance sheet full of debt and an empty bank account. I remember a bike store vet telling me right at the beginning, "Son, you want to know how to make one million dollars in the bike business? Start with two." He was right, bicycle retailers are lucky to make on average of 4% net profit after expenses.
01/1999 to 01/2004
General Sales Manager THREE OAKS FORD City, STATE,
Supervised all sales and marketing for this auto dealership and oversaw approximately 65 vehicle transactions per month. Recruited, instructed, scheduled & directed five Sales Representatives engaged in selling cars, answering questions and providing customer service. Communicated with clients after-the-fact and performed follow-up inquiries. Reviewed, refined & implemented marketing programs, sales initiatives, and promotions. Skillfully managed inventory of new and used vehicles and ensured accounting for all stock on hand. Resolved various problems and provided customer satisfaction. Provided professional development efforts to staff members to improve productivity and efficiency. Proficiently negotiated with clients. Left this business after a hostile takeover by an egotistical maniac, who happened to be a partner.
