I work with my grandparents once a week (every friday) at their dry cleaning store. I tag and sort clothes into their appropriate bags for cleaning. I help my grandmother measure and pin customer clothing. I handle payment from customers for the service we provided for them.
As a hostess, I seated customers and stayed aware of table turnover times and server rotations to make quick decisions about seating customers in an appropriate spot. I answered the phone and responded to customers who had questions about the restaurant. I would walk through the restaurant whenever I got the chance to pre-buss tables or refill drinks if the servers were busy. When there was no busser, I would clean the tables and prepare them for the next customers to sit. As a food runner/expo, I would prepare food before a lunch or dinner rush so everything was ready to be plated and served. I would dress the plate with the necessary elements that came on every meal. When the servers were busy, I would serve the plates to their tables for them. I also communicated effectively with the cooks when the servers had issues regarding their food. As a waitress, I greeted every customer with kindness, answered any questions they had about the intricacies of the menu, and provided them with appropriate recommendations to fit their desires. I usually effectively maximize food and beverage sales by making the proper suggestions to suit the customers' preferences. Before any lunch or dinner rushes I would stock the serving station. For example, I would prepare back-ups of food such as for the salad bar, I would roll silverware, and refill sauces. I would keep the serving station tidy by cleaning, taking out the trash, and minimizing any clutter that would slow down business. I have addressed complaints from customers to hopefully satisfy their concerns, and I will grab a manager if the customer is still dissatisfied with my response. While we have been in a pandemic, I constantly wore a mask at any time during the shift, constantly washed my hands ,always handled food and drinks with gloves on, and also always changed out my gloves to prevent any chance of spreading covid. As a waitress, I tried my best to refill beverages, bring food out to customers as quickly as possible, and handle their payments with ease as to satisfy the customer and their experience of eating at the restaurant.
I used to volunteer at a local church in my hometown to feed the homeless a couple of times a year for a few years. I would help the staff prepare large quantities of food and beverages to help those in need. The church provided them with housing, and I helped keep customer and food preparation areas clean and well-organized for maximum efficiency. We prepared all types of food items, such as sandwiches, hot meals like soup, and desserts. We also would pack lunches for the homeless who had jobs during the day. I carried large quantities of pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerators in accordance with safety standards. I served food and beverages to many people in a short amount of time.
In high school, I was the president of the German Honor Society for my school. I became president my junior year, and carried out the title into my senior year. As president, I attended all of the meetings, helped tutor german students, planned and attended all GHS events, helped raise money for the program, and kept up with the GHS garden year-round. We made posters to put around the entire school to teach non-german speaking students German words and phrases to hopefully influence them to learn different languages. In order to hold the president title, I had to have a 3.8 GPA in all of my German classes, and a 3.5 GPA in my overall classes.
I played competitive volleyball for 7 years. Playing on this competitive team, I learned many skills. I learned how to work well with others, how to perform under extreme pressure, and how to lead my teammates with encouraging words and example. I was the captain of my high school varsity volleyball team in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. I have learned many skills such as leadership, cooperation, endurance, organization, and effective communication.
