My work background consist of 3 years in retail with a large company preforming various jobs. I spent 2 years cart pushing working directly with customers in and out of the store. Customer service was the absolute core of that job, from being friendly, to being able to aid them with any number of task. Including unloading cars/them, loading cars and them, fetching carts for them or our handicap carts. I then spent another year in the back room as a general merchandise unloader.
I learned quite a bit about the inner working of a large retail store seeing as i was directly involved in a crucial part.

My daily duties consisted of, clearing the parking lot of carts and returning them to the bays inside the building in a orderly fashion. Communicating with my managers at all points during the day, assist customers with loading and unloading cars. Assisting with loading customers if needed. Also partial duty as snow and ice removal team. Many other task were technically not under my responsibilities but fell to me anyways.
Such as cleaning the parking lot, leaving the grounds to collect stray carts and, refilling the registers bags.
As an unloader my task included, unloading all of the trucks that came to us on any given day (anywhere from 1 to 4). Sorting all said merchandise onto pallets by department. Bringing pallets out to 3rd shift stockers. Then using a hand held computer scanner we had to go our shelves of items in the back room. Where we worked and pick important items that we had not received on a truck that day.
Then deliver these items as well. If all that was finished we would go to grocery side and repeat the process.
