Perform flight line maintenance on the Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 (C-17) engines by troubleshooting, repairing or replacing fuel controls, fuel pumps, EEC (Engine Electronic Control), wire harnesses, thermocouples, oil coolers, engine start system, engine oil system, engine stability controls and accessory gearbox components on the engines, APU's and other propulsion related systems.
I use the Mission Computer Display (MCD) and Multi-Functional Display (MFD) to work fault codes and interpret engine and auxiliary power unit (APU) malfunctions.
I troubleshoot, repair or replace fuel controls, fuel pumps, EEC (Engine Electronic Control), wire harnesses, thermocouples, oil coolers, engine stability controls and accessory gearbox components on the engines, APU's and propulsion related systems.
I perform scheduled and special inspections on engines as well as pre and post flight intake and exhaust inspections.
I have also performed aircraft inspections, tire/brake changes, refuel/defuel and deice operations.
I discuss the aircraft, engine and APU discrepancies with the Boeing and Pratt & Whitney engineers.
I perform and assist in engine and APU run operations.
I enter performed maintenance, and maintain records in the Air Force automated maintenance tracking (GO81) system.
I provide on-the-job training to lower graded Airman or new hire personal (civilian or active duty) in all aspects of the job and in using applicable technical data.
I also discuss the aircraft, engine and APU discrepancies with the Boeing and Pratt & Whitney engineers.
My special duty qualifications include but aren't limited to: Limited Red X to perform and sign off Pre-flight and Thru-flight/BPO inspections on the engine intake and exhaust, the operation of the Auxiliary Power Unit, Blade Blend identification and repair, engine borescope operations, and the ability to identify and troubleshoot various engine malfunctions.
