My first 13 years as an RN consisted of floor nursing. It involved caring for medical patients. I have worked all 3 shifts and my jobs included caring for seniors, cardiac telemetry patients, and at times pediatric patients. My next 21 years involved doing outpatient blood pressure screenings. I have a strong rapport with my clients and good assessment skills.

My responsibilities were to screen for high blood pressure at our scheduled sites. This job included education, counseling, advice, referrals, and at times, a call to EMT's for high risk clients. I usually worked independently at my sites, but at the larger retirement homes, we had 2 nurses. Our sites included senior centers, retirement homes, libraries, and health fairs.
I worked on the medical unit. Responsible for primary care, including assessments, IV's, medication administration, assisting physicians, writing care plans, charting, teamwork, staff assignments, and charge nursing. Our unit included the cardiac telemetry patients, and our nurses rotated into pediatrics to relieve for breaks. Worked on a committee to update standards of care.
Worked in skilled nursing area. Jobs included patient care, charge nurse, charting, medication administration, dressing and wound care, notifying doctors, and writing orders. Overseeing the care, safety, and comfort of our patients.
My job began with on the job training as a beginning nursing assistant. I worked with an experienced aide for a time and then cared for my own patients as assigned by the charge nurse. These duties involved total patient care. Responsibilities included bathing, dressing, assisting to meals, feeding if needed, assisting with ADL's. This is where I found my passion for nursing and being a caregiver. My rapport with seniors is strong.
