ASSISTANT TODDLER TEACHER
Summary

Although I am young I do offer a wide variety of childcare experience and I'm constantly trying to expand on my knowledge of children and different types of daycare facilities. I also like to think of myself as a friendly and energetic Toddler Teacher with three years in the childcare industry. Motivated to help children become happy, healthy and well-behaved. I am a reliable Child Care Worker talented at creating a safe, stimulating environment for young children. I expertly lead individual and group activities to encourage learning and develop social interaction skills. Experience
Assistant Toddler Teacher12/2014 to 07/2015Miniapple MontessoriMinneapolis, MN

My most recent and most conducive to my career inc hildcare was when I worked at Miniapple International Montessori. I was an Assistant Toddler Teacher but my Lead and I were more like co-teachers. The ages I worked with were 16 months to 31 months as well as sometimes going into the Preschool or other Toddler room to help remain in ratio.

There were multiple instances when my Lead Teacher was unable to come into work whether it be sickness or vacation and I assumed the role as Lead in her place. We worked as a team and she gave me the some responsibilities as a Lead to give me more experience. Some of my duties included:

  • Helping coordinate lesson plans and organizing fun activities with our students to promote sensory development as well as stimulate physical and emotional growth.
  • Redirected children to encourage safe, positive behaviors.
  • Frequently substituted in office and classroom areas.
  • Helped facilitate indoor and outdoor play, parent-teacher conferences and keeping the classroom clean.
  • Created daily lesson plans for activities.
  • Physically and verbally interacted with children throughout the day.
  • Taught children personal care behaviors, including toilet training and feeding.
  • Continually encouraged children to be understanding and patient with others.
  • Monitored educational progress by keeping detailed individual charts and files.
  • Instructed children in health and personal habits including eating, resting and toilet habits.
Assistant Infant Teacher08/2014 to 11/2014The Cradle ClubEdina, MN

This was a short position but one that was very rewarding nonetheless. I worked with three other teachers, two assistants and a lead. We worked with younger infants aged 3 months to 9 months while prepping the older ones for transition into the next infant room. Some but not all my responsibilities included:

  • Organized activities that developed children's physical, emotional and social growth.
  • Physically and verbally interacted with children throughout the day.
  • Collaborated daily with classroom teachers to keep activities running smoothly.
  • Established and maintained a safe play environment for the children.
  • Completed morning classroom and play area opening duties.
  • Used read-aloud time and alphabet games to promote early literacy.
  • Sanitized all toys and play areas daily.
Assistant Preschool Teacher05/2014 to 09/2014Harbon Montessori SchoolNew Brighton, MN
  • Perhaps the most helpful and rewarding position I've been able to receive was at the Montessori school in New Brighton for which I worked with pre-school aged children three years old to five years old.
  • I worked alongside another teacher who led the group into activities while her and I would maintain a fun learning environment for the children.
  • While quite a long list of duties and responsibilities, I see the biggest highlights in teaching children personal care behaviors, including toilet training and feeding especially when dealing with the younger children who may not have not have been at the same level with the other children developmentally.
  • This also required social milestones which could be defined as encouraging children to be understanding and patient with others as well as knowing how to be safe when outside or when entrusted with more independence.
  • Keeping on the same path with social and developmental progress I as well as the lead teacher monitored educational progress by keeping detailed individual charts and files; we also maintained daily records of children's individual activities, behaviors, meals and naps; with this information we were able to distributed timely educational assessments, similar to report cards, to each parent.
  • As a team, the lead teacher and I would collaborate daily with one another to keep activities running smoothly which included creating daily lesson plans for activities.
  • By doing so we were able to organize activities that developed children's physical, emotional and social growth.
  • Although there were always supposed to be two teachers, sometimes it would require me as the assistant to take over the reigns for a brief period of time which resulted in me to frequent classroom areas even if it wasn't with my group of children.
  • There is much more to include and would be more than delighted to at the time if there were to be, the possibility of an interview.
Swim Instructor/Splash Deck Supervisor04/2013 to 01/2014YMCACoon Rapids, MN
  • As a Swim Instructor working with a variety of ages and diverse characteristics, at the YMCA I used the knowledge I learned form my schooling to help promote good behaviors by using the positive reinforcement method.
  • I was also chosen to work with a handful of children who needed a different style of learning whether it be due to age or other defining traits.
  • I took this information and was able to created and implement developmentally-appropriate curriculum that addressed all learning styles.
  • As an instructor of children who were young I had the opportunity to develop personal relationships with the parents and guardians of my students.
Birthday Coordinator04/2013 to 12/2013Brunswick Zone XLBlaine, MN
  • An unlikely position to earn experience working with children of all ages, I had been in charge of creating a safe, fun environment for the child and their guests in the event that if an emergency were to happen, the parents of the birthday child and the other children could trust me to act swiftly and calmly.
  • While most of the duties were serving and customer service oriented, there were some things I picked up on to make this day meaningful and special for everyone involved.
  • I did this by physically and verbally interacting with the children throughout the day, as well as establishing and maintaining a safe play environment for the children which went hand in hand with monitoring the children's play activities to verify safety and wellness.
