Provides day to day supervision and direction to subordinate skilled and semi-skilled unionized personnel involved in 7 day/24 hour, computer controlled, and continuous process operations involving wastewater treatment facilities, equipment, vehicles, buildings and grounds in conformance to all applicable NBC/state and Federal regulatory /permit guidelines. Directs and trains subordinate staff in daily operations and preventative maintenance of NBC wastewater treatment, pumping and monitoring facilities. Sets priorities, renders operational advice, makes daily assignments, interprets policy, and resolves issues/ problems (e.g.: personnel, union grievances, coverage, operational safety, etc.) Is management's representative during off-shifts. Ensures all work is performed in accordance with NBC policy guidelines, operational SOP's, State & Federal Permit requirements, safety procedures and the union collective bargaining agreement. Trains and retrains employees. May work a rotating shift schedule, as required. Performs other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities.
Serves as a lead to lower level staff regarding the operation of the plant and troubleshooting problems. Monitors and operates a variety of computers and electronics in the monitoring of plant operations. Monitors plant readings and adjusts plant levels based on operational procedures and guidelines in order to maintain proper plant operations. Maintains a variety of logs, reports, and documentation regarding plant operations and readings. Oversees and/or responds to alarms or operational problems within plant property and at remote locations and takes corrective action based on defined procedures or supervisor direction. Performs all duties of an Operator I or II as assigned.
Takes and records readings of plant equipment, including temperature, pressure, and vacuum. Operates a variety of pumps, valves, gates, and switches in order to operate the plant equipment. Responds to alarms or operational problems within plant property and at remote locations and takes corrective action based on defined procedures or supervisor direction. Cleans plant equipment and facilities and maintains a safe working environment. Frequently requires operation of a forklift, Bobcat, front end loader, sweeper, scum truck, and/or pick-up truck. Collects samples, performs standard tests, and records results; notifies supervisor if readings are abnormal. Assists other operators and plant staff with cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and installing plant equipment. Receives hazardous materials (chemical deliveries) and completes appropriate paperwork.
Currently possess a full RI Grade 4 Wastewater Operator's license
