For 6 years, prepared and presented differentiated lessons in reading, writing, and social studies for diverse 4th grade classes, including students in special education, with learning disabilities, in the gifted program, and those with increased behavioral needs. Utilized the district's 1-to-1 iPad program to seamlessly integrate technology into instruction. Crafted common formative assessments on essential standards as a part of a team, assessed students' progress, and responded to the resulting data to meet individual needs. One of these years was self-contained (including math and science instruction), and the other 5 were departmentalized.
Guided an intern (student teacher) from Baylor University for the 2016-2017 school year to enhance her teaching ability and classroom management. Modeled lessons, planned curriculum and lesson presentation in collaboration with intern, observed lessons and provided feedback, provided friendship and moral support along the path. Mentored a teacher new to the district in the 2020-2021 school year, supporting her in learning the intricacies of our district, partnering in lesson planning, and providing moral support.
Served as a resource teacher for 4 years, teaching struggling readers in an intervention class utilizing the Read 180 program that resulted in students gaining between 1 and 5 years' reading growth. I also served on the school's leadership team as a part of this position, assisting teachers with technology, helping coordinate and administer state testing, and planning and implementing school-wide initiatives.
Taught in 5th and 6th grade general education classrooms for 3 years, crafting engaging lessons in reading, writing, social studies, science, math, PE, and art. Integrated best practices to enable each student to improve from his/her current performance ability whether struggling, on-level, or advanced.
Crafted curricular units for use across the district integrating reading, writing, and social studies, and that enhanced students' 21st Century skills of communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
