Here are a few examples our Resume Builder may suggest for your shipping resume:

  • Managed shipping and receiving activities for company with 2,500 orders processed daily
  • Factored shipping procedures, rates and routes in making determinations on best shipping methods for materials
  • Handled receipt, storage, identification and delivery of packages and documents for up to 200 clients per day
  • Negotiated with five different freight companies and received annual contracts resulting in cost savings of 17 percent
  • Distributed mail on foot to residences and businesses, delivering to approximately 250 customers per shift
  • Simplified shipping processes, which boosted productivity 15 percent

6 Do’s and Don’ts for Writing a Shipping Resume

  • Do use numbers to quantify your impact. Data can add a lot to a shipping resume. For example, you may mention the throughput you achieved in a previous role. Similarly, you may mention how your process changes increased productivity by 10 percent.
  • Do include soft skills. Remember the human element of your work. For example, you may have had to coordinate with colleagues at other locations to ensure your logistics ran smoothly. You may have made a presentation on possible shipping optimizations. These interpersonal skills are as important as concrete skills.
  • Do tailor your resume to the job description. As you write your resume, consult the job description and note the required skills and experience outlined in it. Customize your resume for each job, taking care to highlight the most critical elements of the role.
  • Don’t copy and paste the job description. Although you should tailor your resume to the job description, don’t just copy and paste. For example, if the job description says you will need to “collect mail from letter boxes on specific routes both on foot and by vehicle,” don’t directly copy that language. Instead, paraphrase it using the keywords. You might write, “Experience collecting mail on foot and by vehicle.”
  • Don’t include high school information if you have a higher degree. Many people working in shipping do not go to college and, therefore, list high school in their Education section. However, if you received a college degree, you can skip listing your high school diploma and only list your college education.
  • Don’t include unrelated experience. Try to keep your resume content limited to relevant experience. For example, you don’t need to mention your experience playing intramural sports. However, if you organized shipping the team’s gear when you moved facilities, that would be relevant even though it wasn’t professional experience.

Beat the ATS With These
Shipping Resume Skills

Many large organizations use technology called applicant tracking systems (ATS) to automatically filter resumes. An ATS scans the resume for relevant skills and experience to weed out unqualified candidates. Major carriers like UPS will certainly use an ATS, so write your resume with that in mind.

To get by an ATS, you’ll need to tailor your skills section to the job description and use industry-standard terms. LiveCareer’s suggestions can help you cover your bases. The following are a few examples of what our builder might recommend:

  • Supply chain distribution
  • Over-the-road trucking
  • Logistics management
  • Package tracking
  • Warehouse management
  • Mileage and service logs
  • Route management
  • Shipping and receiving
  • Package delivery
  • Delivery record keeping

Shipping Resumes for Every Professional Level

Entry-Level

Mail Carrier

This job seeker has only been working for a few years. He uses a functional resume format to place greater emphasis on his relevant skills than on his work experience. Rather than listing job responsibilities and achievements under his prior positions, he lists them under his major skills. This helps drive home his proficiency in those highly relevant abilities. He also describes why his prior work was important. For example, the job seeker highlights that his work helped to implement “swift resolution” to any issues that arose on the job.
