As a career changer, you need to know how to build a resume that works with the experience you have. This means focusing on transferrable skills instead of your work history.
Think about the skills you need as a mechanical engineer. This could include creativity, a knack for problem solving, good listening, and an understanding of math and mechanics. Then, think about the skills you used daily as an automotive designer. Do any of these skills line up? If so, point them out on your resume.
Remember, you may have gained transferrable skills in your past job, at volunteer events, or through hobbies. No matter where you gained a usable skill, you can mention it to better show you're a good fit for the job.
