I am cross trained to work in the front as a receptionist as well as in the back as a technician. I am responsible for the over-site of a variety of administrative/clerical tasks including maintaining electronic filing through AviMark, checking the accuracy of records, follow up with patients, answer calls/emails, scheduling appointments, collect payments, cashing out, end of day reports and clinic bank deposits. I also help train new veterinarian assistants, have interaction with vendors and clients on behalf of the manager and doctor daily.
Technician responsibilities are to triage the patient (TPR) and assist the Veterinarian in his exam/treatment plan, dose calculation and administering of a variety of medications (oral, IV, SQ, IM), going over estimates, discharging patients and communicating proper care and instructions to clients for patient recovery, oversee the preparation of anesthetic procedures and treatments, catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia administration/monitoring, hospitalization of patients and maintain medical equipment within the facility. I am trained to operate the Snyder Oxygen Chamber, assist with endoscopy procedures, along with cautery and suction tools while in the OR. I keep inventory stocked, order hospital supplies (medicines, lab supplies) and make sure we have adequate quantities of surgical/procedure tools. I also have my Controlled Substance License and am in charge of maintaining the controlled substance logs, Cures log and ordering of controlled substances alongside the Veterinarian.
I aided in reception and intake appointments for both patient and client. Processed new patients and updated client records with key information using Avimark. I cleaned and disinfected exam areas, equipment and kennels. I assisted veterinarians with wound treatment, administration of vaccines, medication and collected samples (blood, skin, cytology, urine, fecal) for lab testing. I administered routine, post operative and daily treatments to animals under direction and supervision of the Veterinarian.
I have volunteered with various canine rescues over the last 18 years. I have mostly volunteered with smaller, foster based rescues. I have helped with marketing, fundraising, adoption events, health education and have extensive experience in fostering puppies 4+ weeks.
I have been a Peer Mentor to new widows and a companion to other survivors through a non profit organization Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. I went through various training focusing on being a mentor who innately and intimately understands the unique aspects of military tragedy.
