Animal Care Technician (Prince Georges County MD)Department of Enviornmental Management (DEM) - Upper Marlboro, MD
  • To serve in any way necessary dedicated to the care of the animal inhabitants of the Prince Georges County animal shelter and the upkeep of its State owned facilities, including but not limited to: Primary domain in the handling and behavioral assessment of large breed canines.

  • Coursework designed to render the concept behind our jobs within TSA.
  • Taught in several phases between the TSS:E's of Dulles Airport and a handful of DHS and Military personnel at Quanitco Marine Base (VA)
  • Presentation focused on teaching TSO's the components of many of the different types of explosives we may encounter on the checkpoint, ranging from historically significant examples to future threats.
  • Fieldwork included time at the Demo range, where we were able to witness explosive ordinance detonation first hand and get a defined grasp at the power of the involved specimens.
  • Chance to have hands on with different explosive models and the components that go into making an IED.

TSI-K9 Shadowing/Mentoring Course Transportation Security Administration - Dulles , VA
  • Coursework which provides TSO's the opportunity to experience the Transportation Security Inspector - Canine Handler position first hand and also provide a background into the headquarters end of the spectrum in order to quantify and provide valuable insight into how the entire operation is run, financed and marshaled.
  • Chance to sit down with John Randle (Chief of Performance Measurements) Whom was able to provide a presentation and elaborate in great detail as to where the program was coming from and where it hopes to go in the future.
  • I was allowed to shadow Mrs. Adrienne Gardner and witness some of the inner workings of the TSA compliance compartment.
  • I was introduced to the logging systems utilized by TSI-K9 handlers. The daily hours regimen and the report procedures.
  • Got the chance to meet and speak with many of the K9 Handlers on staff. Learned quite a bit about the science behind the methodology in the craft, was came out reassured that I will be able to fall back on much of my previous training as a boon.
  • Allowed to serve as a decoy for an explosive dog unit.
