The Coordinators position for the agency I currently work for is a Directors role. The agency reorganized during a precarious time for the department when the Director was asked to step down. I, at the time was the Transportation Supervisor, I was given many tasks of the Director during the absence of the position. Although I do not have the education that a Director is required to have for the agency, the powers that be found that I was capable of doing the job, and doing it well. I was given the position of Transportation Coordinator three years ago. I feel I have impacted the agency in a positive and respectful way that keeps the synergy and balance for the department.
Responsible for developing, monitoring, and directing passenger transportation operations for adults with developmental disabilities in Orange County New York, overseeing 31 Bus and Van Drivers. Other responsibilities include; Manage, plan, and direct passenger bus and van transport to various workshops, programs and field employment. Budgeting, strategic development planning, scheduling, and people management are just a few of the daily day to day responsibilities. I Manage and facilitate a service garage that maintains a fleet of 18 large capacity buses and over 235 cars and vans. Typical duties and responsibilities are to review and revise transportation schedules to ensure increased efficiency and to reduce costs. 19A Certified Examiner which in details training and testing of bus drivers in New York state. Lead, direct, guide and monitor the work of the Bus and Van Drivers. Troubleshoot and provide solutions to driver-related problems. Assess training needs and facilitate on-going training to ensure maximum effectiveness. Orients staff to department policies and procedures, mandatory trainings, and staff evaluations. Resolve operational problems related fixed routes and shuttles. Investigate situations and complaints, and recommend solutions. Provide planning, research and development, and implementation of department policies and procedures. Coordinate transportation for special events pertaining to department operations, including Medicaid transportation. Coordinate special projects to accomplish department objectives and other tasks requested. Collect, analyze and report statistical data regarding the operation of the department; make planning recommendations based upon statistical reporting. Investigate operational complaints, and accident investigations as needed. Maintain current knowledge of the state 5310 Grant, its guidelines, applying, and bi-annual reporting. Drive a bus or van on a backup basis. Computer skills and managing software that include, Excel, Word, Mappoint, BigFoot, and other related software designed for the specifics of the transportation department. Monitor and approve staff time in attendance in a Web based program in Ceridian. Staff Evaluations performed in Web based program in Taleo.

I am a 19A examiner for New York State, I continue education for this certification yearly because of the constant changes in New York State DMV, Rules and Regulations of the Transit system. Agency trainings are required of all staff, I conduct several of the trainings including Corporate Compliance, OSHA, Incident Reporting, and bi-annual safety meetings.
