Substation Construction Supervisor, 01/2012

Project Management was in need of a Substation Construction Supervisor to oversee construction of new and upgrading/expanding of existing substations by outside contractors.
This need was due to the large volume of substation projects and not enough qualified construction supervisors available.
This role was in addition to my role as energization coordinator.
Over see the day to day operation of the substation construction from civil all the way to final energization of the substation.
Work with contractor foreman in solving any problems that may arise with equipment, outages, wiring errors, design errors procurement of equipment Etc.
Ensure daily safety brief is performed and crews are following all safety procedures.
Take clearance for all outages and ensure tag points are correct and verified.
Review and approve contractor grounding plan ahead of the outage.
Schedule all departments for testing and inspecting of all electrical equipment and protective relay systems.
Senior Energization Coordinator, 01/2011

Assist in overseeing substation construction projects in the National Grid New England service area (Ma, RI, NH and VT).
Develop and implement a test energization and "in service" plan to ensure a safe, efficient timely cut over sequence.
Assist project managers in developing the outage plan for approval by system control.
Work closely with System control, Relay Protection, Communications group, Substation, UG, OH and construction services to make sure all work is complete prior to energization.
Ensure all roles during the energization procedure are clearly defined.
Make sure all electrical equipment has been inspected to National Grid standards prior to being energized.
Confirm with the Relay group that all relays have been properly set and tested and all current and voltage "bumping" has been done as well as relay trip testing.
Update system one lines as the energization steps progress to make sure the Substation group has an up to date one line for each step to assist in executing the switching order safely.
Update and verify final one line on completion of the project.
Assist in the decision process if a mobile substation is required to maintain sufficient customer reliability.
If a mobile substation is required, assist in the installation and testing of the mobile substation.

Due to Company wide reorganization they reduced from four Substation Managers to two.
I was made a Lead Supervisor based in Leominster, but responsible for assisting as needed in substations for the entire New England North division.

Over see day to day operations of four Substation maintenance groups in the North and Granite division.
The division is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and construction coordination of 139 substations located in the Merrimack Valley, Malden, Cape Ann areas of Massachusetts and the Salem and Lebanon NH areas.
The substations range in voltage from 4kV up to 345kV.
The division consists of fifty represented employees as well as nine Substation supervisors.
Duties include prioritize high profile work, ensure all safety plans as well as policies and procedures are rolled out to the four groups.
Follow up on major substation outages or events, to ensure that any deficiencies or problems found are resolved completely.
Interact with transmission dispatch, Sub transmission dispatch, Field Relay, Substation services, Relay and substation engineering, OH and UG departments while investigating major outages.
Follow substation construction jobs, to ensure contingency plans are in place during equipment outages for cutovers to ensure continued reliable service.
Ensure all equipment is inspected without delaying construction jobs.
Assist with planning, scheduling, and switching for substation energization plans.
Respond to system emergencies as needed to assist in restoring customers quickly, efficiently and safely.
