Help build the Video Service Desk within a new group called the XOC. Our roles as Engineers was to create a foundation for understanding and maintaining knowledge of our Video and VOD (Video On Demand) products to our fellow group members along with other XOC groups.
Played a key role in training other Engineers on how to troubleshoot our products when issues arose. Also helped facilitate the use of our monitoring tools to our "eyes on glass" teams who would report any and all issues to the Video Service Desk group.
Build relationships with the Regional Engineering and Head end teams to build confidence in knowing the Video Service Desk would be proactive in keeping issues at a minimum while also quickly solving the issues as they took place.
Help build a foundation for all future Video Service Desk engineers so joining the team would allow people to grow quickly and build experience based on every issue worked on.
Was 1 of 2 primary Engineers who worked on the VOD system. Our role was to maintain all back-office and streaming environments while also verifying content was received in all catchers.
Maintained a working relationship with multiple vendors as we troubleshoot issues or replaced hardware as they failed. Also worked with vendors to provide detailed communication on resolving recurring issues that ultimately became resolved with software or hardware upgrades.
Worked with other Engineers specifically in the Network and Conditional Access environments as VOD at times dictated us to do so. This cross platform environment created the need for constant communication to resolve potential or existing issues.
Owned our VOD environment from end to end while also being involved in monitoring, troubleshooting, and upgrading as we moved into a CDN environment.
I was the evening Head end tech who monitored and resolved issues ranging from VOD to linear Video. I would also maintain communication with other groups who have equipment in the Head end to relay any failures noted to troubleshoot.
Learned the DNCS (Digital Network Control System) during my time at nights by communicating with the Vendor and fellow Engineers. Did multiple tasks within the DNCS controller that included resolving channel issues, resolving package issues, determining overall health within the DNCS controller. This would ultimately allow me to become more involved on the VOD (Video On Demand) side which is where more of my focus was seen.
Learned the basics of monitoring and maintaining Linear Video products such as receivers, qam's, qpsk's and demodulators. Working on these products gave me a foundation to use when understanding and building upon the Linear Video/VOD products.
Worked in multiple office and Head end environments which allowed me to be able to adapt more quickly to any environment I was in.
I am very flexible in working multiple shifts and On Call as needed.
