The Department of Children and Families is Florida's lead agency responsible for child protection and welfare. Project FLSACWIS (Florida Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System), supports State of Florida for prevention, protective investigations, protective services, foster care, permanency planning, Independent Living youth that age out of foster care, and adoptions. Protective Investigations, the front end of the system, is designed to provide in-person response, 24 hours a day, to reports of abuse, abandonment, and neglect. The protective investigator gathers information and applies critical thinking to assess threats of danger and to determine if a child is safe or unsafe, or at risk of future harm. Adoption is designed to achieve forever homes for children. This is achieved through services to recruit and retain adoptive parents, conduct home studies, support adoptive parents, case management, and post placement assessments and supports for children, youth, and adoptive families.
Project MiSACWIS (Michigan Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System), allows Michigan state to maintain the adopted children information. SACWIS is a sole case management automation tool used by all public and private social workers responsible for case management activities for State of Michigan. SACWIS supports the reporting of data to the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis Reporting System (AFCARS), the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) and the National Youth in Transition Database (NYTD). Within the SACWIS project, there are different modules like intake management, case management, financial management and administration.
