Trained as phlebotomist through HS Vocational Program (Health Occupations Education); started summer before my Junior HS Yr. Collected blood samples for all ordered tests from patients of all ages (infants - elderly) with all conceivable medical conditions (Aids/HIV, oncology, dialysis, etc) and in all departments (ER, med-surg; L&D, Maternity, dialysis, oncology, ICU (central lines); out-patient, apheresis and more).

Cross trained in other lab areas such as receiving, accessioning, centrifuge / splitting/ processing specimens per test to appropriate department (chem, hematology, serology, send outs to Nichols Institute/Smith Labs); the hospital lab was absorbed by private lab MPC; I was recruited by MPC initially to work in the newly created "stat lab". Hospital ownership/name has changed and I last understood that it became part of the Memorial Herman system. No license required when I worked in this role.

MPC LAB: Worked in various positions including phone operator, phlebotomy, processing, qa, in-house problems. learned every department possible; worked overtime; handled all kinds of specimens; trouble shooting with machines, cleaning/initial calibrating of chemistry/hematology machines; performed simple tests on machines for CBCs, chemistries, pregnancy, ua's; prepared samples for tests in all departments except micro; received processed all specimens like 24 hr urine collections; selected to go into homes to recollect samples that may have been lost or mishandled (this was in 1990 and pretty much unheard of at that time).

I have excellent client/customer service skills; creative problem solving skills; very diverse people skills. I worked all hours, in all departments and interacted with employees, customers (physician offices, hospitals, school districts), patients and clients at every level. The company is no longer in business but I understand has been absorbed by various labs and possibly even LabCorp in the early 90s.
