My prior position before teaching was as an Assistant manager, Assistant Unit Director, Manager Boys and Girls Club of Central Minnesota – St. Cloud The job description was to make sure the program was run safely, efficiently, and productively. At the Boys and Girls Club I was the assistant unit director, I was in charge of greeting parents and other adults when they arrived to pick up their children. I needed to check identification and make sure the parents were in the system and able to pick up the child. I ran programs and activities in the gym, art, cafeteria which I planned prior to the day. When I became a manager, I continued to run programs but my role shifted into more of a supervisor role. I supervised between 100-125 students everyday along with 6 - 10 staff members. I was in charge of making sure that these staff members came prepared and were safe with the students. I was in charge of making sure payments were received and put into the system. I gave tours to new parents thinking about getting into the program. I also talked directly with parents about any issues that came up with their children during the day. This program was run during the school year from 3-6 and in the summer from 6:30-6 pm. This job taught me how to interact with parents and students and to also over-see a staff and make sure their needs were met as well.
