Community Service & Volunteer Work

Toy Drive for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital Infusion Center

While serving as the Spanish Club President my senior year of high school, I was able to start a school wide fundraiser for the infusion patients at the local children's hospital. Because I am also an infusion patient, I am passionate about helping children who endure tedious treatments. Through this passion project, my peers and I were able to donate a multitude of toys to various patients under the age of 18.

Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America

As a Crohn's Disease patient, I volunteer regularly for CCFA to help raise awareness about Irritable Bowel Disease and assist with fundraising events that fund IBD research. I have had the pleasure of working with this community and helping other young patients cope with similar auto-immune diseases.

Court Appointed Special Advocates

I have gotten involved with various philanthropic organizations through my membership in the Gamma Iota chapter of the Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity. Kappa Alpha Theta's primary philanthropy is Lexington's local chapter of Court Appointed Special advocates. Throughout my membership in the Greek community, I have aided in preparing care packages and have raised money for children who are victims of poor domestic conditions. Additionally, I have participated in fundraising events for the Dance Blue Clinic for pediatric cancer. The Panhellenic community has opened a gateway for me to participate in other fundraising activities for organizations such as the Make a Wish Foundation, St. Jude's Hospital, The Nest of Lexington, and more.

Crisis Text Line

In order to better serve the community as a mental health advocate, I have worked as a trained crisis counselor for the Crisis Text Line. The Crisis Text line is a text-messaging based platform for individuals to reach out and gain access to immediate counseling in times of a crisis. As a Crisis Counselor, I have mediated conversations including but not limited to suicidal thoughts, drug abuse, domestic violence, etc.. Serving the Crisis Text Line has allowed me to help individuals find solutions by establishing anxiety management, being able to refer clients to other organizations, and I have served as a "sounding board" for clients to talk to. This opportunity has allowed me to help others navigate tough situations in their lives and has taught me the importance of working with other authorities to ensure the mental and physical well-being of all individuals.
