I have worked at The Evergreen State College Library Technical Services Department (acquisitions, cataloging & processing) for 46 years.
I have worked in the health & wellness field since 1984. I have embraced health/wellness & activity for many years and enjoy working with others to achieve their health goals.
I am a fun & gregarious person. I thrive in a supportive, kind & considerate team environment. I also am well versed in working independently & goal setting.
I oversee the maintenance and development of the Technical Services Department in the library including functions related to processing, cataloging, and acquisitions. Regularly assign, instruct, and check the work of others. Lead assigned staff; supervise and train library staff. I demonstrate a high level of expertise using and trouble-shooting library technical services software and tools. I perform original descriptive and subject cataloging and LC classification.
I also perform collection development for the Master's in Teaching program, Curriculum room & Children's collection.
I teach a senior strength, balance & stability class. This class focuses on strengthening muscles and increasing range of movement for daily life activities. We use hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a small ball. Often a chair is used for seated exercises or standing support.
I also teach an EnerChi class. EnerChi uses modified tai chi movements in a slow, flowing sequence to improve balance. It includes purposeful slow movements & weight shifting to increase strength & balance.
Supporting members in their health & wellness & weight loss goals. Facilitating behavior changes that will help them achieve their long-term weight loss goals. During the pandemic, my primary function was listen. Most members were struggling with their mental health, isolation, frustration, lack of exercise & loneliness.
Core Technical Servies Duties :
*Perform complex and multifaceted ordering, cataloging and processing for books, ebooks & other electronic materials, Dvd's/video streaming, PDF files, games, theses, math manipulatives, realia, etc. in order to provide access within our library integrated library system (ILS) Ex Libris Alma & Primo.
*Perform original descriptive and subject cataloging and Library of Congress (LC) classification in accordance with established cataloging rules.
*Recognize, examine, and resolve complicated and involved technical questions and problems including complex acquisition orders & cataloging issues with bibliographic records.
*Maintain the library's materials collection in Alma and Primo including tending to broken links, resolving unavailable bibliographic records, and fixing other catalog and access issues.
Core Management Duties :
*Identify, plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate activities in the Technical Services Department including acquisitions, cataloging, processing and records management functions.
*Plan and monitor budgets for the Technical Services Department.
*Supervise staff and coordinate the ordering, cataloging & processing of library materials.
*Identify, plan, organize, and manage special projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
*Expert skill in and the ability to use library systems and tools such as Alma, Primo, OCLC, WorldCat, Gobi (Yankee Book Peddler), Cataloger's Desktop (LC Classification), as well as copiers, printer, and scanners.
*Comprehensive knowledge of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress classification and subject headings, and Machine Readable (MARC) coding, and the ability to apply these rules to materials added to the library collection.
*Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment & multicultural workplace with students, faculty, staff, and a community of diverse ages, ethnicities, genders, lifestyles, and abilities.
*Excellent organizational skills and an attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
*Ability to anticipate and adjust policies, working procedures, and processes to accommodate changes in technology or services.
*Skill in planning and implementing projects and an ability to set priorities, work independently, and exercise flexibility working with multiple assignments.
