As a Law Enforcement Officer, I proudly served the community with compassion, ethics, professionalism and attention to detail for 25 years. During my career, I served in several unique law enforcement positions, gained valuable first-hand experience and completed my Bachelorās Degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. I believe that the combination of compassionate service, work experience and education qualifies me for the position of Texas Works Advisor I.
During the first 14 years of my law enforcement career, I served as uniformed patrol officer, answering calls for service from the public and self-initiated calls for service. Conducting criminal and civil investigations were part of my daily duties. These investigations most often included the collecting of evidence (photographs, video, documents) and the interviewing of witnesses. I developed early in my career, the protocols for accurately collecting and logging-in evidence items. My actions concerning investigations, interviews and evidence collection were documented in detailed and precise reports. I conducted follow-up contacts when requested and/or required.
The following five years, I served as a school resource officer for the public-school system. My many responsibilities included conducting criminal investigtions (collecting of evidence, interviewing witnesses, detailed/precise reports) and conducting yearly physical risk assessments for the campuses where I was assigned. Managing campus lockdowns during an announced or perceived threat. Assigning and directing police security for after-hour on-campus school events. I directed and participating in regular active shooter response training with other officers and school staff. Directing and participating in regular school safety training. Planning and attendance of five National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) annual conferences. Above all, my greatest responsibility was the daily protection and safety of the students and staff. Also during this time, I received training and began serving as the secondary public information officer for the department, in an "on-call" capacity. This position required me to maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding the department's administration, as well as internal affairs investigations and external agency investigations.
The remaining six years of my law enforcement career were served in a supervisory capacity (police sergeant), as well as continuing to serve as the secondary public information officer. My responsibilities included the direct supervision of both commissioned and non-commissioned police employees, to include managing payroll, assignments/schedules, maintaining employee performance files and conducting shift level investigations of alleged employee misconduct. Prepared detailed administrative reports. Required review of commissioned officer body cameras and in-vehicle cameras. Attendance at administrative disciplinary hearing for subordinates. Efficiently and effectively managed responsibilities and timelines. Involved in the safety planning and uniformed attendance for festivals and events within my jurisdiction. Involved in the preparedness for approaching hurricanes/tropical storms, which included being present at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during a storm. Directly involved in the enhancement of security features (bullet resistant glass and metal detection machine) for the public entrance of the main police headquarters. Daily communication and support of the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief of Police and Mayorās Office (weekly), concerning the direction and goals for the police department and city government. Active member of the local community relations committee, whose purpose was to promote crime prevention and foster positive working relationships with law enforcement.
Thoughout my law enforcement career and during my financial services career, I've demostrated the to ability to think in an organized and rational manner and perform with unique problem solving skills . I am interested in a full-time career position, with an organization that emphasizes high ethical and professional standards. My proven ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality, is a testament to my ethical and professional character. My background is free of derogatory findings.
