I began my law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff on patrol. It was my duty to respond to calls for service, service of criminal and civil processes, and assisting businesses and citizens on how to better secure their property as to prevent losses. Some of the calls for service included, reports of fraudulent activities on desktops or smartphones. In these instances I would clear the device of malware and show the owner how to better protect themselves through anti-malware, and general purpose security practices. I then received a promotion to investigations where I took custody of the evidence room.
My responsibilities included the intake, processing, and deposable of all items seized by the Sheriff's Office. While having custody of the evidence storage room, I helped to implement a new system that is still being used. The old system of records was done on paper, I was able to transfer those records, and update new records to allow for a paperless system, which increased productivity and better security for chain of custody records. While having this duty, I also was tasked with investigation of crimes that had been reported, these crimes varied from breaking and entering, to sexual assault. One such crime included the theft of an individual's identity which required that I locate their fraudulent activities, and then advise the victim on how to minimize the risks of the incident happening again through better security practices.
I received an opportunity to gain employment at the Rockingham Police department, where I am still employed. I am tasked with response to calls for service, and working with the public, be it a business or private residence, in ways to better secure the property. This is done by referring security systems, placement of cameras, placement of offices within a building, foliage as to offer cover or concealment to the property, and entry authorization processes.
I am currently enrolled at Richmond Community College in the Cyber Security program. Thus far, I have completed classes focused in networking, both Small Office and Home Office (SOHO) routers, and that used to administer server-client systems. I have practiced in environments such as Cisco for router and switch function, Windows clients, both for desktops and servers, and Microsoft Azure functions for DHCP services.
I have always dreamed of having a career as a cyber analyst. It was my inspiration for joining law enforcement, so that I could gather the necessary experiences and skills needed to provide the best services possible. Through by experiences and training in physical and digital security, I feel that I would make a great addition to your team.
