What the job entails starting from one end of the assembly line to the other and personal achievements I've made includes:
I have been signed off on all of the positions below, and here are a couple of my personal achivements at Daily's.
- Floor Runner: After perfecting tape and stack I obtained my pallet jack certification license to become floor runner. It is their job to pull pallets out of the packing room, scan them into the system, wrap them and put them in the designated spots. It is our job to look at the truck load sheet and match product order numbers to see what orders can be stacked together.
- Lock out tag out: I was given locks by the company to lock out and power off machines when they break down so that they canāt be powered on while either I fix them, maintenece or other employees who have there locks can do so, they are also for when machines need to be washed out for cysts, or set up for other routines we have there like gas flush, which all of these i have learned to do.
Job duties-
- Slicing: This Job consists of picking up 30-40 pound pork bellies with a hook, loading them into the slicer at a fast rate speed. While doing so you adjust the slice count and the points so that you are on the correct thickness for the order. You also adjust to what kind of layout they want for the paper or how many slices on a sheet, also adjust so the bacon is not falling off the back or the front of the paper.
- Grading: As the bacon comes out of the slicer and down the assembly line it is the graders job to separate the different kinds of bacon, pushing off the ends, grabbing the "big buy" bacon that has glands and putting them into folders before the next grade comes and repeating that process.
- Table: Is standing behind the grader having their back just in case they were not able to grab everything off on that grade and also to grab "California" off the line which is bacon that has 15% or less primary meat content.
- Boxing: The boxers job is to grab those sheets and slide them off the assembly line into a box as they come out, Pulling anything out that is not center cut if the table, or grader had missed anything. They lift up the box to guess if the box weighs 15 pounds and then grab another box from the over head shoot while the line keeps going to work on the next box as they push the last one to the scaler.
- Scaling: The scalers job is the grab the box from the boxer place it on the scale and make sure the net weight is 15 pounds, placing a sheet of parchment paper on top, loading a product label and pushing it down the 3m to be taped, which then goes down to the tape and stack worker. They also need to make sure their tare is set correctly for certain layouts.
- Tape and stack: Consists of placing the correct label on the box which is typically a Daily's label but not always. They check to make sure the product code and slice count is correct for each order, Then the same thing to make sure the Manufacturing order number is correct and has not rolled over into the next order. Tape and stacks job is to stack the boxes onto a pallet in a specific pattern, and to also give a count back 9 boxes before the order is done so that the boxer knows when to yell out last box so the slicer can stop the machine. Once you've mastered tape and stack that's when they take you to floor runner.
- By Product jobs: Includes weighing out big buy, ends, and California to the correct weight and the running it through the Multivac Gas flush machines to be sealed, labeled and boxed.
Lastly its my job to ensure cleanliness and quality of the meat by washing hands regularly, not touching things that are not supposed to be, and if they are making sure people get re-washed and gloved up.
