Additional Information
  • My first ever job was a phone solicitor for Tru Green Lawn Care in 1987. I was making phone calls from a list of names copied from the phone book. I started off making $3.35 per hour and would get commission for each person who allowed a lawn specialist to come to their home and treat the lawn. I then worked at Burger King for the summers of 88 and 89. Once I graduated from High School in 1990, I went directly to the University of Akron and worked in the bookstore for the two semesters I attended. I transferred to Ohio University and worked in the dining hall while attending there for 3 semesters. In 1994 after another stint with a third college I decided to relocate to College Park, Maryland. I worked in the bookstore on campus for one year before applying for a job at an optical lab which required no experience. I thought it was for a camera company developing film, but it was a wholesale optical lab making eyeglasses. I worked under master opticians who taught me everything I needed to know and a whole lot more. I stayed at Homer Optical for 2 years before moving on to Lenscrafters and then Pearl Vision. Learning more and more with each stop until finally settling in at Kaiser Permanente in May of 2000. I’ve been with Kaiser Permanente since then working in several different capacities. Ranging from optical lab tech, to optician, to optical manager, and back to optician.
