After leaving the work force to raise my children I remained just as active, focused, and goal-oriented in my involvement with local sports organizations, and faith based groups as I did in the workplace.


Coach - My coaching experience spans house, travel, AAU, middle school and high school, and includes coaching boys and girl. I have won championships in faith-based and secular leagues. I have coached boys' and girls' basketball, boys' baseball, girls' soccer and lacrosse, and boys' tackle football (earning honors as SYA Coach of the Year in 2006). I have mentored young and inexperienced coaches providing insight on how to develop practice plans, game strategy, and how to teach the fundamentals of various sports to children of all ages. I played a significant role in the creation two home school teams for the Fairfax Home School Athletic Association (FHSAA): the high school-level FHS Football team, and the FHS Middle School Boys Basketball team, which I coached to the NVIAC and East Coast championships.


Administration - I served on the board of the Price William County Boys and Girls Club for two years and served on both the Football and Basketball Boards of the Southwestern Youth Association (SYA) one of the largest youth sports entities in the U.S. for eight years. As a Board Member, I helped select coaches, created/managed league schedules, organized and personally ran and coached clinics, negotiated uniform buys, managed drafts, lined fields, and served as Safety Officer. Note: I lobbied the SYA board to create a "Safety Officer" position and I served in that role for two years in order to ensure that all SYA basketball and football coaches were cleared to coach. This position required me to handle sensitive information that was held in strict confidence. Few adults have the access and the ability to influence children the way a coach can, and with the increasing number of reported cases of coaches abusing their players I felt I had a responsibility to play a role in the safety of the children in my community.
