  • Performs hearing screens on newborns in the parent’s room (unless conditions do not permit) using guidelines and protocols established and approved by the Newborn Hearing Screen Program. 
  • Observes and adheres to Universal Precautions for Infection Control as required by OSHA, The Joint Commission and the respective facility/facilities where performing work.

  • Evaluate and prioritize infants to be screened based on established protocol.
  • Perform (ABR) Automated Brain stem Response hearing screening tests, and using designated equipment strictly following protocols and procedures.
  • Document screening test result and high risk factors in medical record and newborn hearing screening log as indicated by screening protocol.
  • Educate and provide parents with verbal and written information to take home about hearing loss and speech and language milestones.
  • Routinely completed inventory, supply orders and restocked supplies.
  • Accurately collected and recorded patient information.
  • Greet and prepare patients for hearing screenings.
