I have worked in the healthcare industry since 1991 and have come to love this industry. I enjoy being part of a team whose end goal is about patient satisfaction and making sure quality healthcare is achieved. I have worked in hospital settings, private billing offices, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient physician offices. As a result I feel I have a broad knowledge of the healthcare industry from billing/coding to insurance authorization to patient account management to medical records management.   • I started my career at HIM doing the roll as "Check Out." In this roll my duties included: the scheduling of patient appointments with their medical provider; scheduling patient specialty appointments; scheduling patient tests as directed by the physician; answering patient phone calls; assisting in the filing and retrieval of patient charts and documents; managing the transcription process (uploading the daily voice to and retrieving typed files from the dictation software); the management of the daily deposit/account reconciliation (DPR).
  • In May 2010, I transferred my duties to managing the Medical Records Dept.
  • During the transition to Medical Records I also helped with the orientation and training of new hires in our office.
  • In February of 2014 our office became the pilot site for the implementation of EMR.
  • Since its inception, I have been actively involved in coming up with work flow solutions for the office.

  • My duties in this position were to provide support to the occupational, physical, and speech therapists in a skilled nursing facility environment.
  • Support duties included: the filing of required documentation to patient charts; providing assistive device equipment to patients at the direction of the therapists; assisting therapists with patient therapeutic activities (ambulating, exercise, transporting to and from rehab group activities, etc); other duties as determined by the rehab manager.
  • The most rewarding aspect of this position was the part I played in direct patient care.

  • During my employment at DHMC, I worked for two departments.
  • From 1994-1999, I worked full time as a Billing Information Coordinator in Patient Financial Services.
  • At this job I was responsible for obtaining hospital inpatient and outpatient insurance precertification and assisting patients on a one-one basis with their billing/insurance questions.
  • As part of my job I had to keep abreast of new insurance regulations and changes and new billing implementations while balancing the needs of individual patient requests.
  • The most rewarding aspect of this job was being able to assist patients with their, sometimes complicated, billing inquiries.
  • In 1998 my job status changed to part-time due to the recent birth of my first child.
  • In 1999 I transferred to the Radiology, working, primarily, as a receptionist on weekends and evenings.
  • My duties included the registering and scheduling of patients for appointments, however, I assisted on other assignments when asked.
  • I terminated my employment May 1, 2001 as I was pregnant with twins.

  • I started as a part-time employee doing very basic tasks and quickly proved myself to be a quick learner and eager to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
