Accomplished design professional focused on leveraging over 13 years of strong design and construction experience, including project management expertise in architecture and construction and strategic relationship building, into a managerial role for projects within a forward-thinking construction and facilities development firm.
Business Development role with a focus and subject matter expertise in structural steel construction. My industry experience in architecture and construction, along with active leadership roles in local industry organizations, such as serving on the Board of Directors at the American Institute of Architects Houston chapter, which has enabled me to develop strategic relationships with Architecture, Engineering, and Construction professionals and to provide feasibility studies and consultation services to project teams for viable steel construction options. Since taking on this role, I have developed a strong regional market presence through effective relationship building resulting in a net +200% increase in regional client and project accounts within two years, with continued projected growth. Market sectors of experience include commercial building projects: multi-family residential, retail, industrial, hospitality, and mixed-use developments. This includes generating framing studies to find economization and efficiencies in construction approaches for healthy project margins, assessing procurement, material costing data, working with local permitting jurisdictions, and providing schedule and speed-to-market data to complement proforma studies. I'm also engaged with effective speaking opportunities at national design, real estate, and construction conferences showcasing the latest advancements, innovations, and trends in efficient construction, focusing on viable steel options.
Responsible for managing projects and budgets from schematic design, design development, construction documents, value engineering, and construction phases. Weekly coordination of Owner, Architect, and Contractor meetings to gauge project status and contract compliance. I successfully managed and delivered for occupancy multiple projects with aggressive timelines and restrictive budgets and have received several letters of positive referrals from satisfied clients. My background as a degreed professional in architecture has allowed me to contribute solutions to record drawing inconsistencies and minimize turn-around time of RFI's to continue progress in the field. My ability to communicate in multiple languages has often eliminated productivity barriers in the work field and has gained the trust and cooperation of foreign clientele. Additionally, my weekly quality control checks in the field for projects underway prevented and minimized re-work and change orders to the owner. I additionally was responsible for reviewing and approving pay applications, reviewing contract documents for project compliance in the field, and maintaining logs of projects expenses, as well as tracking project expenses for reconciliation to overall project budget.
As part of this Kiewit Corporation Design Build team my last assignment was a 22 Million Dollar Clinic and an ancillary HVAC overhaul project at Houston's NASA Space Center, my role as Project Engineer included review and approval of construction deliverables phased from design documents, scope procurement, and project closeout. This included managing teams while developing design solutions for field clashes and quality control through review and coordination of Architectural, MEP, Landscape, and Civil scopes of work. I contributed to the firm's project team by developing well thought out project schedules, accurate design details, and coordinating weekly construction progress meetings with Clients, Architects, and MEP Consultants. Also responsible for maintaining project records current to reflect real-time construction progress and developing accurate as-built drawings. My collaboration in a team setting with our consultants and subcontractors resulted in the projects being on time and on budget, resulting in project profit margins ranging from 15-35% on average.
Coordinator for multiple projects from the pre-construction to project closeout phase. Responsible for maintaining and updating construction documents via the use of AutoCAD and Revit programs. Additionally responsible for project oversight and management of small teams, including coordinating with project consultants and contractors.
In my last major role with this firm, I served as Construction Administrator for a 60 million dollar major renovation project for the Houston Community College System Central Campus with a one-year completion schedule. Entailing scope included daily Construction Administration activities, including technical Field Reports, Submittal Review Process, developing ASI's, Addendums, RFI investigation and response, project scheduling, and coordination with the team consultants and product representatives, and ensuring construction was in compliance with contract documents. I was also tasked with developing successful drawing details throughout the design and construction phase of the project and developing design options to resolve construction conflicts in the field. These tasks included interaction with the client as well as with general contractors, local government agencies, and additional project consultants to ensure quality of construction documents. Maintaining a diligent focus and efficient communication provided the clients with favorable results to maintain project schedules and budgets.
Additionally, on-going marketing tasks included the development of high-resolution marketing material and production of competitive business procurement submissions. Using software such as PhotoShop, In Design, Revit, PowerPoint, and Sketchup enabled successful development of marketing material for use business development.
