Talented Field Training Officer devoted to serving the public with a sense of pride, Honor and Professionalism. Experience training and supervising numerous new EMT's.
In 1998 while working at MedStar Mobile Healthcare, I was offered a position as a Driver Training Officer and accepted. This consisted of being assigned to a new employee who was ready to start the field process of training. During this training period it was my duty to ensure that the new employee that was assigned to me could ensure that the MICU was response/ road ready, ensuring that the new employee could read a map/ Mapsco correctly, had an idea of how to travel throughout the city, memorizing MedStar's posting locations throughout the coverage area and numerous ways to get to them.
It was also my duty to ensure that the new employee drove with due regard to safety to others on the road, obeyed traffic laws and MedStar's policies in regards to driving with lights and sirens. Along with what is listed above it was my duty to ensure that the new employees knew where all the hospitals within the D/FW metroplex were located and how to get to them in a timely manner or to find alternative routing should the need arise. Also my duty to ensure that they could multi-task such as listening to the navigator all while listening for additional radio traffic directed towards their unit, watch traffic, operate emergency lights and sirens and maintain safety at ALL times.
In 2007, I was promoted to a Field Training Officer which consisted of al the above plus ensuring that they were able to practice emergency medicine within the scope of the EMT practice. Had good knowledge of their skills and be able to apply what was taught in school in real life situations all while ensuring personal safety, scene safety his or her partners safety and patient safety. Ensuring that he/she had proper lifting techniques, was able to gain the trust of his or her partner, fire crews, local law enforcement and most importantly the patient. Also during this phase of training it was my duty to ensure that he or she could perform proper written documentation, call in via radio to the receiving ER facility giving a brief report of the events leading up to transport and during transport and an ETA. Then once arrival at receiving facility a more in depth report was given to the receiving nurse and all required signatures were obtained. Also ensuring that the written documentation was left at the receiving facility at the time of patient transfer or within a timely manner (24 hours) from the time of service. Extra things were taught but no evaluated on, more just kind of a "JUST TO KEEP IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND" type.
