06/2014 to 07/2019 Sergeant - Ground Radio Repair United States Marine Corps | City, STATE,

As a Ground Electronics Transmission Systems Maintainer I was trained to install, diagnose, modify, and perform field level maintenance on Ground Common Transmission Systems (portable), Vehicle Intercommunications Systems (mobile), operating on VHF or UHF, antennas, remotes, repeaters, related electronic equipment, and miscellaneous non-communication systems. Follow up training during my second deployment in support of the Global War on Terror resulted in certification in Fiber Optic Termination and Repair.
Typical duties include the troubleshooting and repair of Ground Common Radio Systems, Ground Common Tactical Wideband Transmission Systems and related electronic equipment at an organizational unit or intermediate maintenance activity. Field expedient operations regularly required installation, implementation, and preventative maintenance of transportable power systems such as diesel generators and Ground Renewable Expeditionary Energy Network System (GREENS) solar panel systems. Duties while in garrison would often involve writing communication channel plans, official applications for frequency use, subsequent programming of authorized frequencies, and coordinating on radio assignments between multiple organizations.
My additional duties often involved of requisition parts, managing customer service request tickets and problem resolution, completing service requests, and providing small unit leadership in the installation of Ground Electronics Transmission Systems. Performed significant time researching compatibility, configuration, technical specifications, and installation process for new equipment. The work environment regularly involved exposure to potentially dangerous situations requiring strict adherence to safety precautions and thorough implementation of policies as needed.
As an Electronics Maintenance specialist I was able to provide leadership with in depth expertise with land mobile and portable radio systems. During the planning phase I would use published doctrine as well as personal experience to select appropriate methods of communication for field operations. Task completion was based on either implementing plans myself or making the general intent known and delegating to my subordinate leaders. When encountering new situations for which published guidelines were either absent or inappropriate, I would establish protocol under the direction of my staff non-commissioned officers. Made purchase orders and acted as contracting officer in regard to maintaining communication related equipment and services.
As a Sergeant I was responsible for groups of Marines ranging from 6-25 at a time. In order to lead them effectively I provided general direction in administrative matters, specific instruction in technical matters, and a mentorship in personal development. I was also responsible for user training in land Mobile and Portable radios, directing my Marines in installation, maintenance, and removal of mobile radios, use of test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs), and watt meters. Ensured accountability via weekly inventory checks of communications systems, sensitive cryptologic equipment, present equipment status/ location (including off site equipment), made regular updates to emergency action plans.
