As a Software Engineer III, I designed, developed, and maintained claim, member, enrollment, and pharmacy, along with Federal and state required reporting. This was accomplished by using SQL and ETL processes for several State Health Plan Markets. Job scheduling was achieved via SQL, Tidal Software automation, or through SSRS. I mentored junior developers with our most common tools SSRS, SSIS, and other ETL processes. As a member of a Code Review team, we would enforce coding standards and performance enhancements for the Regulatory Compliance Reporting (RCR) department. A majority of our regulatory reports utilized application reporting tools SQL, SSRS, SSIS, Oracle, and Informatica. With these tasks and activities, we used the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) initially within a Waterfall environment and in early 2020 we transitioned to an Agile environment using Kanban board methodology with daily stand-up meetings. Agile is a set of methods and practices where solutions evolve through collaboration between cross-functional teams to deliver value faster, with greater quality and predictability. Another of my tasks was to research and evaluate testing software Zephyr and present my findings to the management team. I determined the Zephyr testing tool provides end-to-end solutions for Agile teams and integrated well with the tools we currently use but requires too much overhead for small projects or tasks. This tool would be ideal for mid to large scale projects. This software tool has been implemented in other departments throughout Anthem Companies Inc.
As a Senior Systems Engineer, my responsibilities included claims, enrollments from manual applications to developing PICK applications on a Sequoia system running atop of a UNIX based OS system. Was one of a select number of Developer Engineers offered the chance to receive training in VB and SQL. Upon completion of training, we lead a team of Engineers who supported a new reporting system. This required SQL administrator responsibilities and to quickly learn how to spot real-time problems and troubleshoot issues. I designed, developed, tested, and debugged automated streamlined processes for incoming EDI formatted data from numerous employers and State Medicaid data sent by the individual states. Other responsibilities included DBA maintenance, completed several ETL and SSIS projects for Product Modeling and Employer Group Reporting utilizing my knowledge in SQL, SSMS, Crystal Reports, and Access. Upgraded and converted multiple Access Databases to SQL and SSIS with VB.net front ends. Worked extensively with customized CSC-Comtec software and have completed numerous PICK projects including the development of a Medicaid enrollment system with data inputs from tape, Internet, secure FTP, and Electronic Data submission system using EDI formats. Completed countless reports, and data feeds to multiple destinations. Assisted in configuring and installing an intranet-based corporate-wide comprehensive learning management education system called SABA.
First to be hired in a new IT Department as Senior Systems Analyst. I worked on a PICK system with CSC-Comtec software modified for the specific needs of MVP Health Plan. I designed, developed, tested, and debugged user interfaces and company reports. After six months I was promoted to IT manager. I was responsible for a staff of fifteen Systems Analyst, PICK Programmers, and Developers along with and the operations staff. Part of my responsibilities included meeting with the current consulting staff and transitioning their responsibilities to the new in-house IT department.
Originally hired as a consultant and accepted a permanent full-time position in December 1989. I was one of five Managers / Project Leaders to receive extensive training on an IBM 3090. I was the MicroFocus COBOL/2 Workbench Administrator and Project Leader. Lead the development of a Zip Code geographical matching system now known as Geographic Reporting and for this, I was awarded special recognition and employee of the month. I designed, developed, tested, and debugged numerous software applications including geographical reporting systems and underwriting software packages. Managed and coordinated with three departments to install networking software (TCP/IP) to allow PC's to communicate with an RS6000 on an OS/2 network. I was responsible for system-wide support on IBM 3090 with VM and PICK OS, as well as five Honeywell Ultimate 6000/7000 series systems also running PICK OS. Worked extensively with Health Care Network development staff, training, troubleshooting, and optimizing code as well as developing standards procedures and intranet documentation.
