Responsible to perform the daily activities required to successfully complete design related tasks for stations, bridges, retaining walls and all other areas applicable to civil engineering disciplines under the jurisdiction of the Managing Engineer of Civil Design for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). This profession is practiced with the paramount concern of safeguarding the life, health, property and public welfare of the LIRR Customers.

• Perform Design Activities and Compete Project Documents by determining applicable codes/standards relevant for specific project.
• Develop general project description and draft design criteria of various design concepts for selection by upper management and recommend selection of final layout determined by Safety, adherence to codes, constructability, esthetics and cost.
• Develop general scopes of work, detailed project drawings, specifications and other design documents as required for construction projects.
• Prepare AutoCAD drawings in accordance with LIRR office ISO 9001 CAD Standards.
• Perform analysis and calculations for soil conditions, concrete design, steel design, aluminum design and select architectural items best suited for project.
• Perform Critical user review of Designs prepared by third party consultants focusing on ability to maintain, durability, impact to operations and constructability.
• Develop analyzed conditions into sketches for final design and/or drafting.
• Supervise and participate in development of final projects including drawings and specifications.
• Ensure project documents are being prepared in compliance with project schedule.
• Coordinate with LIRR Force Account to ensure construction problems are resolved in timely and accurate manner.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and perform periodic field visits to ensure work is being performed in accordance with design documents.
• Develop project management skills by taking pro-active approach to work and by striving for results.
• Perform necessary management tasks as required including project scheduling, management, and quality control.
• Take lead role in ensuring project work and other tasks are complete as per senior management direction and project schedule.
• Perform weekend and/or evening/overnight duties as required by department procedures, including bridge hits, impeding extreme weather events, or other events requiring emergency action.
• Perform weekend and/or evening/overnight duties as required to maintainproject schedule.
• Perform audits during field visits and inspections to ensure work complies with LIRR and FRA safety guidelines.
