As a rideshare driver no two days are alike. We are self employed so one has to be highly self motivated to be able to make a living as a driver. You have to have a “whatever it takes” attitude and tackle multiple tasks in order to maximize profits. It means working early mornings during the week to get those early morning airport rides then work a split shift to catch those after work rides. Then adapting to the evening and weekend crowd that is looking to go out and have fun. One has to be able to read a person and match energy of the riders. Recognize when someone prefers a quiet ride and when someone is looking to have a conversation. Many times one does not know where a ride might take them so being able to adapt to a constantly changing environment is pivotal to success and earning good tips. Communication, in person and via electronic means are important. Being able to enforce rules while maintaining a pleasant demeanor is a skill i have honed while working as a driver. One sometimes may have to deal with unruly or intoxicated passengers. Informing people of open container laws and seating capacity of a car are a semi-regular occurrence in this business. One has to remain firm yet professional. All while keeping ones eyes on the road while obeying local traffic laws.
This restaurant is family owned and operated. My official job title was server but i wore many hats. As a server i was the face of the establishment. I would greet and seat customers. Guide guests through the ever changing menu and urge them to be a little adventurous with their dinning experience. The menu had many non-traditional items that i would explain to a wide variety of guests. I was responsible for communicating any meal modifications to the Spanish speaking kitchen staff and making sure everything came out in a timely fashion to ensure a wonderful experience. Beyond that i would also take phone orders and occasionally make mixed drinks when the bar was overwhelmed. I would also wash dishes when needed as well as close down the restaurant at the end of the night. Closing duties included sweeping, mopping, turning off all decorative lighting and electronics, preparing utensils and glassware for the following day, taking out the trash, counting the cash register, and locking up.
I was a handyman and facilities maintenance of a high traffic yoga studio in the heart of North Park, San Diego. My responsibilities varied day to day. My main focus was trouble shooting and fixing various things that would stop working or needed repair. Including broken door hinges, lockers and drawers. Lubricating squeaky doors and lockers. Stopping leaking showers. Fixing lighting fixtures & switches. Vacuum cleaner and steam machine maintenance or repair. Maintaining appearance of the studio included cleaning windows, sweeping sidewalk in front, vacuuming carpet in lobby and locker rooms, disinfecting yoga studio after classes, including mopping of studio floors, wiping down walls, mirrors and ventilation of studio. Making sure all spray bottles of cleaning agents were topped off. Mixing of cleaning agents including, disinfectant, general surface cleaner and glass cleaner.
As Fitness Manager it was my responsibility to meet each new member when they joined the gym and set them up with a personal trainer for initial fitness assessments. I would answer any questions or address any concerns they had about the gym, fitness or nutrition. I would evaluate a members goals, their fitness level and nutrition then prescribe a regimen that would help them reach their personal fitness destination. As far as day to day operations i was responsible for hitting monthly income goals in regards to the sale of personal training for the gym. I would delegate tasks to employees and personal trainers. Then set up weekly team meetings with them as a group to discuss club goals and promotions. Then i would schedule individual meetings throughout the week to monitor how they are progressing with their clientele then identify clients with expiring contracts to devise strategies to resign them to additional training packages to progress them closer to their fitness goals. Beyond that my personal goal on a daily basis was to continue to build rapport with the members. I was a friendly face and a liaison to them. I was someone they could ask for advice or help with performing exercises or just have a friendly chat. The goal was to create a positive experience for members every day.
