Hired as a lab director of an analytical contract lab to grow its business consisting of 20 technical staff. In the last 19 years, I was promoted twice and the cGMP lab business is now over 1000 staff globally and the business revenues are at ~$150M. My responsibilities are to oversee the financial, business and operational performance of the lab including development of business plans for new service offerings and nurturing client relationships to be their partners in their analytical testing needs during drug development and commercialization. I am also responsible for preparation of budgets, revenue forecast, cost management, systems and process improvements, maintaining cGMP compliance and quality and interfacing with corporate management on our business needs and financial issues. In addition, I worked with Human Resources motivating, retaining, developing and recognizing staff and ensuring that their needs were met. I interface with QA and QC to ensure of spotless record of GMP compliance is maintained, with IT to establish technological solutions to increase efficiencies and streamline processes, with Finance on financial statements, trends and key decisions and most frequently with our Business Development and Bids and Contracts team on proposal preparation, pricing negotiations, contract terms and conditions. I also travel very frequently to client sites to help sell our capabilities, for bid defense, for regular "check-in" visits.
Responsible for supervising a division performing methods development and validation, stability studies for pharmaceutical clients. Also responsible for resource allocation, management of budget and time lines, client interface, preparation and review of technical documents, etc.
Conducted and provided oversight for research on structure and function of microtubules and tubulin, protein modification, interaction of taxol and derivatives, nucleotides and metal ions. Also responsible for lecturing and supervising graduate level Biochemistry course on the principles and applications of biochemical techniques.
