Summary

I am currently running cross country and track at the University of Louisville while studying Psychology and Criminal Justice. I have a passion for wanting to help solve crime and use my knowledge in psychology to analysis criminals. Being a student athlete has driven me to reach for my biggest goals and I will do whatever it takes to achieve them!

Skills
  • Time management skills: Being able to balance school work while competing in cross country and track all school year. During the day I have to make sure I am using my spare time getting ahead on my school work since most weekends are consumed by competition or traveling to our meets. I also have to plan out my meals while focusing on having a healthy diet, proper hydration and maintaining proper sleep.
  • Dependable and reliable: I always get my school work done and never miss a day of practice. I make sure to always make it to class and practice on time.
  • Responsible driver: I have delivered over 750 deliveries on time and have never received a speeding ticket or hit another car.
  • Excellent sense of direction: As a runner, I am able to navigate through many areas without getting lost.
  • Leadership: As a high school senior, I was our cross country team captain. I helped lead our team to a near state championship as a team when we finished 3rd as a team. I hold everyone accountable to make sure they don't waste time at practice. I stayed after practice with anyone who was willing to focus on good recovery including stretching together and taking an ice bath. I also was apart of the emerging leaders program for student athletes at Indiana University. We discussed tactics that can help improve our practices by setting roles for the leaders on the team to help tackle. My role was to help younger athletes who may be new to the team with setting up their goals. I met with them and we wrote out each of their goals involving both running and academics. I found that if you write out your goals, you will be more motivated to reach them.
  • Teamwork: As part of the cross country and track team, it is important to be a good teammate. I focus on bringing a positive energy everyday at practice by asking my teammates questions about their day and giving out compliments. During training I try to set a good example by giving every run my best effort when needed to set a good influence. I also encourage my teammates during workouts and races to keep smooth since it can help them stay more relaxed.
  • Willing to make sacrifices: As a student athlete, there is a lot that you miss when it comes to having a "normal" college experience. You have to stay on the top of your game each and everyday to reach the goals you set for yourself. I have learned that in order to feel the best at practice and during races, you should follow a consistent schedule in your daily life. This means that I follow a healthy diet while trying to get around 8 hours of sleep a night. There are a lot of social events you may miss as an athlete but in the end it is all worth the hard work you put in to reach you goals.
  • Effective Communication: When you are a delivery driver, it is up to you to make sure you talk with customers if a problem arises. If a restaurant is behind then it is your job to communicate with the customer to let them know the food is going to be late. I have also learned good communication skills from having a great coach in track. I make sure to listen to every direction that is given by him and ask for help if I need it. I make sure to communicate how I feel physically and mentally to build a stronger connection with him.
