Professional Summary

In September I will begin my sixteenth year with the Department of Corrections. All of those years have taken place at the State Penitentiary in Anamosa. I started my career as a Correctional Officer in 2008. Somewhere along the line the job turned into a career. I recognized I was good at what I did and I wanted to make more of a difference. So, I sought promotion and accepted a Senior Correctional Officer position.

As a SCO I worked primarily with individuals with special needs in LUA. During that time I was afforded opportunities to become more familiar with different aspects of what we do as a department - case management, programming/treatment, mental health, and eventually the opportunity to become a facilitator of MRT-P.

During my career I've established quality, professional relationships - with both individuals incarcerated and the staff I work with everyday. It's something I am very proud of. As my career continued, and my dedication and passion for what we do continued to grow, I quickly felt that I wanted a new challenge to pursue. I wanted to continue to make as much positive difference as I could - and I accepted another promotion, Correctional Supervisor in 2019. Soon after I became a Lead Facilitator in CCP.

I accepted a Correctional Counselor position in the fall of 2021. I saw the position as an opportunity for me to continue to make as much of a positive impact as I can, as well as to continue to grow my correctional knowledge and to further my career with the department.
