Work History
10/2019 to CurrentCertified Pharmacy TechnicianAmita Health | Arlington Heights , IL

General Duties in this Position:

  • Stocked, labeled and inventoried medication to keep accurate records.
  • Restocked pharmacy shelves with current merchandise to drive consistent peripheral sales.
  • Performed diversified functions with minimal oversight, including inventory counting, [Duty], and [Duty].
  • Worked with computerized and automated systems for dispensing medications.
  • Restocked automated medication dispensing equipment.
  • Counted and measured medications following standard procedures.
  • Assisted in preparation, distribution, and storage of pharmaceuticals.

Manual-Pick Station:

  • Opened Picking Verification application and selected the assigned zone. After the assigned zone was selected, the computer generated a pick label. The pick label showed which NDC and quantity of drug was needed from the shelf. After retrieving the opened stock bottle with the correct NDC, the stock bottle was scanned. Verifying that the NDC was correct, the computer then generated the first patient prescription label. When the label was printed, the quantity on the screen needed to match the quantity on the patient label. After verifying that all the information was correct, the stock bottle was scanned using the EyeCon machine. Ensuring that the product name, strength, and NDC matched both the stock bottle and prescription label, the product was carefully counted and transferred to the prescription vial without touching the product. After the product was transferred to the prescription vial, the vial was capped and labeled. After successfully affixing the patient label to the prescription vial, the patient label was scanned to complete the order. After the order was completed, the opened vial was to be marked with an "X" and returned to the appropriate location.
  • A hairnet and gloves were required in this area while working with open product.

TCA S4 Maintenance:

  • Monitored flexbeds numbered 1 through 7 to determine any dispenser requiring maintenance. A dispenser requiring maintenance was indicated by an illuminated red light on the dispenser or flexbed monitor. Dispensers requiring maintenance were attempted to be resolved. Each "red light" was indicated by a few different messages on the dispenser screen such as: "Feeder empty / pill jam", "Sensor mismatch", and "Count sensor dirty". To fix the "Feeder empty / pill jam" light, if it contained a drug, the compartment was opened and lightly tapped to try and clear the jam. If the dispenser had no drug, the replenishment status in inventory management needed to be checked. To fix the "Sensor mismatch" light, the compartment was opened and the 4 sensors were cleaned with a cotton swab. To fix the "Count sensor dirty" light, each sensor needed to be gently wiped with a cotton swab to clean off any pill dust.
  • NDC changes were made when notified by the Offline Replenishment Lead to do so. The lead requested an NDC change for a drug. Allocation was turned off and the S4 Dispenser was removed from the flexbed. The left panel of the dispenser was removed to thoroughly clean the inside of the dispenser. The inside of the dispenser was cleaned with a vacuum and an air hose to remove any dust and debris. After properly cleaning the dispenser, the NDC change checklist was followed and completed. After the NDC change was completed and verified, the dispenser was plugged back into the flexbed and allocation was turned back on.
  • A hairnet and gloves were required in this area while working on dispensers and open product.

TCA Online Replenishment:

  • Routine dispenser replenishment started by scanning the ID badge to log into the handheld terminal (HHT). After logging into the application, the "Online Replenishment" icon was selected. Replenishment requests were shown with high priority at the top with an exclamation point. A hopper was scanned to begin replenishment. After scanning the hopper, the HHT showed where the hopper needed to be replenished. After locating the correct dispenser for the hopper, the dispenser was scanned after ensuring that there were no stray tablets or debris on top. After the dispenser was scanned, the hopper was placed onto the dispenser and pushed all the way back until it locked into place. Ensuring that the secure tie on the hopper was intact, it was then scanned. If the barcode was eligible, the green light on the dispenser illuminated. After the green light was illuminated, the HHT instructed to open the hopper and dispenser gates. To do this, the secure tag needed to be removed and the gates needed to be opened to allow drug transfer. After the drug was transferred, the ID badge needed to be scanned to verify that the replenishment was complete.
  • Continuously checked for empty hoppers on the dispensers that were eligible for removal. After finding a hopper eligible for removal, the hopper was scanned. After scanning the hopper, the dispenser unlocked and the doors on the hopper and dispenser needed to be closed and the hopper be removed from the dispenser. After removing the hopper from the dispenser, the ID badge needed to be scanned to verify that the hopper removal was complete. Ensuring that the dispenser gate lock was engaged, the empty hopper was then placed on the "dirty" rack.

TCA Offline Replenishment:

  • Routine replenishment procedures started off by logging into the computer and selecting the "Replenishment Station" icon. After logging into the application, the "Start" button was clicked. After clicking the "Start"button, the replenishment request with the highest priority, displayed the drug name, NDC, inventory location, replenish quantity, and pack size. The appropriate number of bottles specified was then retrieved from the inventory location. After retrieving all the bottles needed and verifying the correct NDC on the screen, a clean hopper was retrieved and examined to determine that it was free of debris. The selected clean hopper was then inserted into the replenishment position on the workstation. After the hopper was inserted, the station locked the hopper in place. The hopper was then scanned using the handheld scanner. After scanning the hopper, each stock bottle was inspected and verified that all the information matched everything on the screen. Each stock bottle was then scanned and poured into the tabletop funnel. All desiccants, cotton, and package inserts were removed from the funnel with a clean pair of tweezers. With a clean pair of gloves, the medication was sifted through to make sure it was free of any foreign objects. Once the inspection was completed, the ID badge was scanned to transfer the contents into the clean hopper down below. The chute was inspected to make sure it was cleared and cleaned. After clearing the chute, the secure tag was scanned and attached to the hopper while it was still in the workbench. After the secure tag was attached, the hopper was then removed from the workbench to be inspected one more time. After verifying that there are no foreign objects in the hopper, the ID badge was scanned to complete the replenishment request.
  • A hairnet and clean gloves were required at this station while working with open product.

Prescription Labeling:

  • Individual tote labeling procedures started by passing the tote over the reader. All contents in the tote were inspected to make sure everything was intact and that there were no package inserts or adhesives attached. The bottle was then scanned and the patient label printed and was then placed on the bottle, covering the manufacturer barcode, making sure that the product name, strength, and pack size were still visible for pharmacist verification. After the label was neatly placed on the bottle, the label was then scanned to finish that order and placed back into the tote. The procedure is then repeated until all items in the tote have been labeled correctly. When all contents of the tote were labeled, the computer prompted to place the tote back on the conveyer belt. The process was then repeated for every tote that passed through on the spur.
