Challenges and Results
  • Increase in student progression, behaviorally, in district wide data monitoring system with the implementation of action plan to increase teacher usage by monitoring system on a monthly basis--exceeded goals at every level by at least five points.
  • Overpopulation of self-contained emotionally disturbed students in the behavior support classroom--created district-wide inclusion plan to begin, with three schools, in the 2014-2015 school year--will add ten more schools in the 2015-2016 school year.  Three to five year plan to include all students, who may exhibit challenging behaviors, into the general education setting.
  • Support school administration with building teacher capacity for teachers in need of assistance--made recommendations for growth plan--assisted two teachers in completing the plan successfully and becoming a model teacher for the behavior support classroom.
  • School in AYP during my tenure, in 2007, as special education department chairperson due to special education students not performing well on the state math assessment--created an action plan to improve performance of targeted students which included:  collaborating with the math specialist to create a daily math lab for targeted students; used the lab as a math elective; personalized learning by focusing only on the objectives in need of improvement.
