So how long is too long for a resume? For most jobseekers, anything over one page needs a trimming. People with over 20 years of experience can extend their resume to two pages, and chief executives can have a resume of three pages. Although if you are that high up the ladder, you often don't need a resume at all because your reputation precedes you.
Keep your resume to one page by focusing on your most important skills, responsibilities, and accomplishments. If you have a varied work history, only include the experience and skill set that are relevant to the job description. Unless you did some crucial work at a prestigious location years ago, limit your work history to the past 15 years.
It's always a good idea to study resume samples. They show you how your resume can be trim and succinct yet still deliver the goods. A one-page resume can make a powerful impression.
