Since 2015, we have identified and encountered countless issues regarding project scope, timelines, budgets, and all around inefficiencies.
To address this, I worked tirelessly with all teams across the agency to create and adopt what is called Product Design, a process that helps to increase efficiencies and greatly reduce bleed on our resources.
This is not only a philosophy but a process that helps to navigate our teams through web projects and includes a slide presentation, project template, and online documentation.
This required a massive effort with well over 500 hours invested into its planning, creation, training, and continued support.
While the official rollout occurred in spring 2019, an agency-wide workshop did not occur until spring 2020 and full agency adoption has lead to an improvement in resources, communication, and quality.
Establishing video and animation processes from 2015-2017, in 2019 I worked with creatives to establish a completely new approach to how we create and integrate animations on sites we build using Lottie.js.
This has reduced the development workload saving us hundreds of hours while opening new opportunities to do more with motion on the web.
UserSnap Feedback - Quality Assurance
In 2018, integrated UserSnap into the site testing process that allows internal teams and the client to submit feedback.
With two clicks, the user submits a message that automatically sends a screenshot, browser details, operating system details, and screen dimensions that deposit directly into a task list in Basecamp or Jira where the issue can be further triaged.
This has not only increased the quality of our work but it has elevated trust with our clients and added value to the overall experience.
Invision - Prototypes
Prototypes are created providing as close to a 1:1 experience as possible.
This helps the client visualize and interact with the final product for solid approvals and the content loaders/ page builders know what any given page should look like.
Developer Daily Standup
Created daily 15 minute “standups” with the development team to outline priorities, identify critical issues, and provide a path forward.
Organized recurring internal workshops and training sessions that increase developers knowledge about languages, frameworks, web standards, accessibility, APIs, and overall best practices. This has helped to enhance individual skills and increase team moral.
Since 2015, our documentation has grown into a sprawling knowledge base to educate and inform developers on our frameworks, coding techniques, and site configurations. This also helps to guide work that we outsource.

In order to reduce repetitive tasks and guess work that accounted for many of our development inefficiencies, a pattern called “Layouts” was created to streamline the overall development process.
This pattern is well documented and provides the team with a set of standards and guides to work develop by. This also positions us to outsource more development work were applicable.
A boilerplate theme with structured code, helper functions, and baseline web standards. This provides the development team with a jumping off point when starting project.
Prior to adopting Git, there was no version control for our code and the only source code we had was on the servers or our local machines.
This created versioning issues when multiple developers attempted to work on the same project causing loss of time and more work that lead to inefficiencies.
Streamlined local development by creating, maintaining, and updating a gulp workflow for compiling, minifying, and organizing our code.
In larger retainer projects that requires more resources such as FBT and APH, sprints were introduced as a way to manage expectations and resources. Prior to the start of a Sprint, we conduct sprint planning with the client to scope and determine where and how our efforts were going to be applied. Sprints happen in 2-3 week increments that include 1 week of testing.
