CHALLENGE B PROGRAM DIRECTOR/TUTOR
Summary
I have served on the board of two non-profit groups and volunteered and was employed by another non-profit group. I am proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Internet and website applications. I designed and taught a creative writing class that parents still rave about. I started a student newspaper and taught the students journalism. The student editor went on to win a trip to Europe because of his writing. He was already a passionate writer; according to his mom, my mentoring gave him the confidence to enter the contest. I initiated, facilitated, and published a group yearbook with a staff of middle and high school students for 3 years. I designed and coordinated a unique co-op for boys to learn virtue and chivalry. This also included organizing and planning two major group events: a medieval feast attended by over 100 people and a medieval fair which included multiple activities going on simultaneously. In order to accomplish these things, I had to pull together a team of other homeschooling parents and members of the community. When I was not contracted as a tutor on a weekly basis, I coordinated our campus art program. I shopped for the best prices and was able to purchase art supplies for 50 students below budget. Some other skills I will bring to a job include the ability to create flyers, advertising, forms, and any other desktop publishing projects.
