I am currently a student in my second year at the University of Oregon working toward a degree in the school of Journalism and Communications. My focus is Public Relations. I have yet to gain ample experience in the specified field, however I have gained leadership experience and have worked with people, improving my communication skills.
Throughout high school I was in a Leadership class. This class was also known as ASB, or Associated Student Body. This consisted of a group of individuals who wished to make a difference in the school by spreading the word about events, planning the events, raising the spirit of the students, and being the voice of the school. I was able to move up in positions in the class each year. By my senior year I was on the executive council planning my own events and having other students in the class essentially working for me. I was able to gain great time management skills as well as experience working with students, faculty, and administration. I worked long hours on these events during the week and even on the weekends sometimes. ASB was the best it had ever been during my senior year. We raised the most money through events and fundraisers and had a positive influence on the school.
At my first job, I worked in a frozen yogurt shop, called Berry Bliss. Here I gained my first experience working a cash register handling money, serving and communicating with customers, preparing and handling food, keeping the workplace clean, and managing my time wisely completing each task. This prepared me for my second job at another food business. I got a job at an organic burgers and fries restaurant, called Weezy's Grass Fed Shed. Here I completed similar tasks such as working at the register, serving food, cleaning, maintaining the supplies available to customers, opening and closing the restaurant, handling money, washing dishes, and occasionally preparing and cooking the food as well.
My most recent job has given me the most experience working with people and utilizing my leadership skills. I have worked at a summer camp as a senior counselor for three years. At this camp I have fifty to sixty children a week to look after, play with, plan events for, swim with, set up activities for, provide food for, and create a fun environment for. I am consistently surrounded by people at this job. I work with the other counselors, the children in camp, the children's parents when necessary, and the administrative persons. I work long hours, arriving at camp early to work before care and go over plans for the day and oftentimes stay late, cleaning, attending meetings, setting up special events, waiting with children to be picked up, and spending extra time to make my own events aesthetically pleasing. Once a week, the group of children I work with in the camp would go on a field trip. These trips required full attentiveness, line management, planning, and safety procedures. For this job I got my CPR and first aid certification.
Through these experiences, I have gained excellent communication, project management, leadership, and event planning skills. I am comfortable working with others and enjoy collaborative work that results in a beautiful, complete product. I am tech savvy and a fast learner with an open mind.

I worked at the cash register taking orders and handling money. I would also prepare the order to serve them. I would clean throughout the day. I refilled the frozen yogurt and any toppings when necessary. I cut fresh fruit and anything else that needed to be prepared before serving. I would open the shop by preparing the toppings and frozen yogurt. I put out chairs, napkins, and took out trash. I answered phone calls and answered questions.
I worked with the largest group of children within Marinwood camps. I led activities and chaperoned field trips. I set up games, crafts, and meetings. I attended meetings and helped make decisions. I worked in before care and after care occasionally. I began the morning routines and led lines to designated locations. I helped provide lunch to children who ordered lunch. I assisted children with changing to swim each day and I swam with the children at least twice a week. I checked children in and out each day and assured they were accompanied by a parent or guardian. I stayed over time and set up activities and special events. I called parents and performed first aid and/ or CPR when necessary.
I took orders and delivered them to the cook. I would bring people their food or call out their number when the food was ready. I would open and close the restaurant. Opening included putting out many chairs, new trash bags, napkins, condiments, etc. Closing included bringing everything in, taking out the trash, watering the plants, wiping everything down, etc. I also had to calculate the sales for the day and check that all of the sales added up correctly. This required some math and tedious checking and rechecking. I would organize the money and record the daily income. I would clean throughout the day and make sure napkins and condiments were in plentiful portions on each table. I would wash dishes and refill anything that needed to be filled, including the water. Sometimes I would put the extra items on after the burgers were made and make salads.
