Best Buddy08/2013 to CurrentThe Friendship CircleFort Lauderdale, FL
This is a program that provides volunteers who are willing to take time out of their days to meet special needs children and/or adults and spend time with them and become their friends. Around 2010 I started volunteering with this organization but unfortunately around 2011 the program came to a pause for a while. In 2013 the new coordinator came in contact with me and since I was familiar with the program from the previous years, she had me help the program start running up again. I helped coordinate monthly events as well as come up with new ideas for the program. With the program starting up again, I also became "Best Buddies" with a 12 year old autistic girl. Every Sunday we would meet up and I would take her out somewhere and we would spend the day together hanging out. I still participate in the program and I also keep in contact and get together with the little girl when I am home during my school breaks.
First Responder06/2012 to CurrentMiami Dade Fire Rescue Junior CadetsMiami, FLThis program provided me with firefighter and medical training and skills as well as leadership skills. I was on the Executive Board for three years; Treasurer for two years and Secretary for one year. I became CPR and First Responder certified through this program as well as having the ability to ride on the fire and rescue trucks and treat every patient that our units received. Due to being away from home for college, I have been unable to participate as much as I used to; but during the breaks when I am home, I am able to participate as well as receive more experience in the medical field while riding the trucks at different stations and treating patients.
