Work History
10/2018 to Current Automation Controls Engineer / Industrial Engineer and Maintenance Engineering Lead Veoneer, Inc | City, STATE,

· Designed, developed, and commissioned 2 production lines for new generation products including: Physical design, Line layout, Process Design, Automation Logic development and implementation, sensor integration, Vision Inspection development and Implementation, and traceability system integration.

· Developed the Company-wide standard for PLC ladder logic schemas, structured text schemas, and HMI capability and workflow requirements that are easy-to-use and aesthetically simple and pleasing.

· Developed a “Central Production Monitor” PLC and HMI display which takes in all production data from every production machine and populates the data into an intuitive layout with trending info, SPC data, and alerts.

· Spearheaded the conversion of the older Allen-Bradley 1P1P PLC’s to the new 1P1P OMRON NX1P PLC’s, rewriting logic as needed to either ease the conversion or implementing kaizen improvements to the processes.

· Spearheaded the development and integration of our new custom traceability system by Ignition (changeover from older grandfathered-in proprietary system to Flexware Ignition) and developed all PLC and PC station handshaking to/from Ignition.

· Developed and commissioned updates and modifications to existing production lines, often as a "ground-up" redesign of multiple stations construction using solidworks, subsequent building of the new stations, rewriting/developing new PLC logic and HMI interfaces from scratch to effectively create additional variants of current product that could run seamlessly and concurrently on current production line.

· Responsible for developing and maintaining Manufacturing-side Engineering budget to include spares inventory for new and existing production lines, engineering material budget, shop supply budget, and CapEx budgets for new products and development. As well as · working with suppliers to leverage improved designs which provide greater yield for our application and their own internal applications.

· Responsible for developing and implementing all Barcode labeling and grading (2D datamatrix, QR, etc, and 1D barcodes) for all products and subcomponents to customer and internal standards.

· Designed / Developed vision inspection systems and schemas for all key production points to mitigate quality spills and improve OA/FTP.

· Responsible for overseeing and performing as necessary, field wiring, pneumatic plumbing, and liquid plumbing for heat transfer systems, plant control systems and HVAC systems.

· Instrumental in the development and Implementation of the Robot-based (Epson C4 series) product inspection and assembly station which increased production yield and FTP at assembly stations by 20%.

· Implemented on-site 3D printing capability for design prototyping, tooling prototyping, fixturing, and ready-made on-hand spares for station nesting/equipment where applicable.

12/2016 to 10/2018 Controls Engineer / Engineering Supervisor PepsiCo / Gatorade | City, STATE,
  • Supervised 33 direct reports including: Integration specialists, Controls Technicians, Maintenance Technicians, Facilities Technicians, and Maintenance Planners.
  • Developed and spearheaded an LSS project team focused on improving the automation robustness of multiple systems across multiple production lines resulting in over $150,000 in savings for the site annually, most of which which were replicated in 3 other plants nation-wide.
  • Identified knowledge gaps and technical shortcomings and worked with upper management to further integrate automated trigger points from the MARS coding system, to provide better visibility of process upsets / breakdown percentages while also automatically triggering downstream processes to shift their configurations to keep the line up as much as possible while machine breakdowns were being repaired, improving plant operational availability by 8%.
  • Created and finalized designs to meet project requirements, largest project being the layout and design of an 40K sq. ft. extension to the plant and subsequent new production line commissioning, including: line layout and automated overflow/accumulation queues, station design and logic programming, line control logic, and finished goods (palletizing) logic / integration with automated LGV forklifts.
12/2013 to 08/2016 Plant Automation and Maintenance Supervisor Beaumont Products, Inc | City, STATE,
  • Supervised 10 maintenance technicians and 2 Controls Technicians.
  • Retro-fitted old, fully manual equipment and systems as needed to integrate them with automated PLC control and monitoring, cutting downtime by 35% and increase production efficiency and uptime by 30% .
  • Developed the first automated Pallet conveyor system to streamline the plant's material handling structure and process, saving approx. $45,000 annually.
  • Developed an LSS team to certify employees with their green belt certification and then develop teams amongst themselves for process improvement and loss analysis.
  • Worked closely with planning team and purchasers to establish a true stock room and parts room, and ultimately develop the plant's first automated inventory control system, which would periodically perform cycle counts on the full inventory of bins using force transducers to trigger a dispatch to perform a hand-count if the stock level /expected weight and measured weight differed by key margin .
09/2007 to 06/2012 Engineering Laboratory Technician / Leading Engineering Laboratory Technician /Nuclear Mechanic U.S. Navy | City, STATE,
  • Supervised over 15 personnel in the operation, maintenance and training of operating steam driven turbine generators, main engines, distilling plants for potable water, and steam generators (boilers). As well as all associated auxiliary equipment including pumps, valves, hydraulics, auxiliary turbines, air compressors, condensers, coolers, pneumatics, HVAC, Boilers, High and Low voltage equipment, reduction gears, and various gages and instrumentation.
  • Wrote and planned 100 work packages as Work Center Supervisor weekly to include; maintenance procedures, rebuilds, replacements, new installs, and dry-dock liaison work during a two year extended drydock shipyard restricted availability.
  • Performed qualitative and quantitative analyses of reactor coolant water, steam generator water, feed and condensate water, and all grades of make-up water.
  • Regularly performed surveys for alpha, beta, gamma, and neutron radiation and contamination, implemented local radiation control limits, and maintained personnel dose assessment records.
  • Implemented and commissioned use of the Mettler auto-titrator system and maintained all calibration and maintenance requirements of the system and its peripherals.
